Mammoth Mountain
When it comes to Mammoth Mountain, your dog doesn’t need to miss out on the fun! This popular mountain and ski resort is accessible through the Mammoth Mountain neighborhood in the west end of Mammoth Lakes. Dogs are welcome to travel on the gondola with you to the summit, or mid-way. By the time you reach the summit, you’ll both feel like you’re at the top of the world at an elevation of 11,000 feet! Explore some of the many trails at the top, with pawrific views of the Sierra Nevada Mountain range and the Inyo National Forest. There are hikes available at all difficulty levels. If you and your pup want a challenge, check out the 5-mile Mammoth Mountain Trail to get views of the San Joaquin river valley below.

Lake Mary
In the Lake Mary neighborhood of Mammoth Lakes, you’ll find something refreshing. This neighborhood is home to the spectacular Horseshoe Lake. Well-behaved dogs are allowed to swim in the lake and enjoy the beach with you, so take a splash while you enjoy the wonderful alpine views. Leashed dogs are also welcome on the hiking trails in the surrounding areas. For something not too strenuous, try the Horseshoe Lake Trail. This trail is only 1.5 miles long, but it’s not short on pretty scenery. Horseshoe Lake is a great area for some summer fun, where your doggo can run, rinse and repeat all day!

Mammoth Lakes
The Mammoth Lakes neighborhood is a desirable place for dog owners, whether you’re just in town for a visit, or to reside permanently. Not only is this neighborhood close to some great trails, but it has a dog friendly urban parks as well. The epic and exhilarating Earthquake Fault is in the north end of this neighborhood, and attracts people from all over the world. Leashed dogs are allowed on the surrounding short hiking trails as long as they’re picked up after. For something closer to home, The Community Center Park and Mammoth Creek Park are both great urban parks for your pooch to stretch his toes. Both parks require your dog to stay leashed, but the Mammoth Creek Park offers free doggy waste bags. This park has several walking trails and is located next to a flowing creek.

Old Mammoth
Old Mammoth is on the south side of Mammoth Lakes, and used to be a mining camp. To take a look at the old mines, Mammoth Rock Trail is the way to go! This trail is 2.6 miles long and welcomes leashed dogs, as long as they’re well-behaved and picked up after. It starts at Sherwins Meadow to the edge of the Lakes Basin. The trail offers great views of the Sherwin Range and the iconic Mammoth Rock, a limestone and marble outcropping in the mountains. When your pup is tuckered out from all the fresh air, you can check out Roberto’s Cafe for some great Mexican cuisine. Dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables on the garden patio.

West Mammoth Lakes
For some fur-tastic hiking opportunities, the Devil’s Postpile National Monument is the place to be. This national park encompases 798 acres of protected land and is accessible through the neighborhood of West Mammoth Lakes. The park is home to the Devil’s Postpile, an unusual rock formation of columnar basalt, and the 101 foot-high Rainbow Falls. The famous Pacific Crest and John Muir Trails pass through the monument and merge into one. Your furry travel companion is welcome to explore with you throughout the monument, but must stay leashed and be picked up after. You can get to the Devil’s Postpile by foot from Mammoth Lakes, or by shuttle from the Mammoth Lakes Ski Area. Dogs are allowed on the shuttle, but must be leashed and muzzled.
