Morris Plains is a borough within New Jersey’s Morris County, and is essentially a “bedroom community” due to a high percentage of its residents who commute to work in New York City. The town and its surrounding communities are home to several dog-friendly activities and amenities, and its mild winters add to its appeal as a place to find things to do outside with your furry companion.

Central Park of Morris County is 299 acres of opportunities to play and enjoy the outdoors. In addition to a variety of organized sport facilities and play areas, the park features paved and natural trails for hiking, biking and walking with Fido in tow, on-leash. Open year-round, winter activities like ice skating, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are available. Fur-babies love snow and would be happy to go with you!!

Not only do you have access to Central Park with your pup on leash, the neighborhood is also the home of the 5-acre Greystone Dog Park. Divided into separate areas for large and small dogs, the park offers lots of room to run and socialize. Benches provide rest and socialization for the humans. Please be sure to bring water for your pooch as it is not provided here, but waste bags and containers are close at hand at each double-gated entrance.

This neighborhood in Morris Plains is home to the dog-friendly and people-pleasing Carmel Haifi restaurant, so when you and Fido get hungry, this is for you! Carmel Haifi features sidewalk tables for you and your doggy date to enjoy their Mediterranean cuisine. Although a very small restaurant, it features big flavor in its meat and vegetarian dishes and desserts. For super-casual meals, they also offer sandwiches and gyros. If an abundance of green grass, trees and walking paths bounded by benches suits your mood (and your fur-pup’s!), Roberts Garden will be just what you’re looking for. In the winter, enjoy sledding on its gentle slopes, or stop by in the summer with your lawn chair and a blanket to enjoy a Sunday night live concert, with the pupster in tow on his leash, of course.

The Morris Plains Borough Center features within it Watnong Park, a small community park with a playground and green space for kids and pups to romp and play. Dogs must be on leash, but a walk around the park or a sit under one of the lovely shade trees would be a great way to spend a couple of hours on a nice day. Make a note to bring water for both Fido and yourself, as none is provided. If you’re hungry, head on over to dog-friendly Kafe Mozart, a unique little eatery that serves up crepes, sandwiches and other casual café fare at outside tables where your fur-pup can join you for a bite or 2. Their savory and sweet crepes are just the thing when you’re in the mood for something just a little different from the usual hamburger menu.
