If you travel northeast as far as you can until you drive your car into the lake, you’ll run into the Panther Bay Public Use Area. This is a local dog lover’s park. When it’s warm in the spring and summer, dogs are welcome to swim at the beach in the clear, cool waters of Norfolk Lake. If you’re looking for beachfront camping, this public use area also offers 15 campsites and restrooms with showers. Fresh drinking water, a picnic shelter, playground, picnic sites are all in place for the public’s enjoyment. Upon visiting the park, you will understand that the people of Mountain Home take their lake time very seriously. With 2 boat launch ramps and a marina, boaters, kayakers, canoers, and river-floaters, you won’t be disappointed. Dogs will enjoy any and all activities here, especially the hiking trail.

Spring St.
Cooper Park is a local favorite for watching high school sports. With baseball fields, basketball courts, and tennis courts, kids have their choice. Dogs are some the biggest sports fans around. They love chasing balls, but they’re not permitted to be on teams. On-leash, well-behaved dogs are welcome at the Cooper Park, where they can live through their brothers and sisters on the field. Facilities also include a nature pond, historical settlement, pavilions, playgrounds, walking and running trail, and outdoor fitness stations. This is a great place for and teenagers to take their family dog on their rest days.

Pigeon Creek
About five miles from Mountain Home, Arkansas on Lake Norfolk, you’ll find the Pigeon Creek Public Use Area. With lots of trails to choose from, hikers with dogs won’t be disappointed. Corgis and other breeds with unusually short legs will love the trails as short as 0.5 miles. The longest trail is 2 miles, but they’re meant to be stacked to create the length height that suits you (and your legs). Mountain bikers love this area. Some trails are quite steep and rocky. We recommend using walking poles if you have them. The site is primitive; there are no restrooms or fresh drinking water facilities on-site for visitors. Please keep dogs-on leash, and dispose of waste responsibly. If you need to find a bathroom, the closest one at the Highway 201 convenience store, about 2 miles north.

Panther Fork
If you’re looking for a decent hike that’s not too long, not too short, but incredibly scenic, Buzzard Roost Scenic Area Trail may just be the trail for you. It’s conveniently located close to town, just a few minutes from the town center. At about 4.5 miles long, this out-and-back trail offers scenic views and quality time with giant boulders. Once an ATV trail, this path is meant to accommodate the full size of the vehicles, leaving plenty of room for foot traffic in both directions. Either of two large natural arches makes for a great addition to your new photo album designated ‘dog pictures only’. While you’re hiking, keep a lookout for crevices in the rocks that lead to caves below. Primitive camping is allowed here, and so are dogs. Just keep them on-leash for the duration of your stay and clean up their waste.

Do you love the water, but don’t own a boat? At Lakeview Park Campground, you can rent a boat for a day on Bull Shoals Lake. Northeast of Mountain Home, Arkansas, this park is the gateway to scenic views of the Ozarks and Missouri. Whether summer or winter, locals love to camp, hike, and fish here. Bird watching and wildlife watching is very popular in the wooded areas of the property, where hardwood trees work together to create a quiet place for nature to sleep. A 1.5 mile trail at the parking area will lead you into the forest. Fishermen and fisherdogs will appreciate the high-quality sporting area that attracts fishermen from all over to compete in yearly tournaments.
