Mountain Trails is an upscale neighborhood on the western edge of Las Vegas, Nevada. It is surrounded by major thoroughfares like Lake Meadow Boulevard and Crestdale Lane but the neighborhood itself is fairly closed off from these major roads because of a small brick barrier that encloses its perimeter. Most of the homes inside its walls are beautiful and large with well-manicured lawns and sidewalk space for walking.
The weather in Las Vegas is mostly influenced by its desert environment and climate. The summers are hot and dry with temperatures reaching above the 100s often and there are not many shady areas to avoid sun exposure. Its winters are cold, but they don’t usually dip too far below 40 degrees. If you choose to walk on a hot summer day, make sure to apply sunscreen and to hydrate both yourself and your dog properly before and after your walk.
What is the terrain like in Mountain Trails?
The terrain in Mountain Trails and most of the Las Vegas area is mostly flat with almost no hills or steep inclines to be found anywhere. There are some gradual slopes on the roads that surround the Mountain Trails neighborhood, but they will be hardly noticeable for an experienced walker.
Though Mountain Trails is somewhat removed from Las Vegas’ downtown, it still experiences some of the foot and street traffic that passes through town. The main thoroughfares of Lake Meadow Boulevard and Crestdale Lane will likely be congested during normal rush hour times and there will even be some traffic within the neighborhood because of its size and the number of commuters who live there. However, since the neighborhood is closed off from most major outside streets, if you stick within its borders on your walks, you should be able to have quieter peaceful walks while being able to stay on tree-lined sidewalks.
How many greenways are there in Mountain Trails?
There are no parks or greenways within the borders of Mountain Trails and though there are options outside of the boundaries of the neighborhood, they are somewhat limited. Just north of the neighborhood is Palm Valley Golf Course which is a massive green area that extends into several different neighborhoods. It does have some places where dog walking would be possible, but it isn’t the best spot in the area.
A few blocks east of Mountain Trails, you will find The Hills Park. This park has a large amount of open green space as well as picnic shelters, playgrounds, and multiple athletic facilities. It is the only official park within an easy walking distance of Mountain Trails. If you are willing to venture even farther east, you will find Pueblo Park which is a long, winding space that stretches for a mile and a half and has loads of trails and open fields.
