Is your backyard just not big enough to really throw Fido’s favorite ball? Are you both feeling cramped during playtime? Do you have a permit for your dog? Then check out Green Valley Forest Preserve on the corner of Greene Road and Hobson Road. There are two separate areas for the big dogs and the small pooches – a larger area for the large breeds and a smaller area for the smaller dogs. Water is provided at the park.

It’s Sunday afternoon, and you and your family are looking for something to do besides stare at the television. What do you do? What if you could find and visit a magical place where bonds can be strengthened, and the fun is endless? Well, there is…it’s called outside! Don’t just go anywhere outside, though, go to Whalon Lake Dog Park! Open from 6:00 a.m. to sunset April through October and from 8:00 a.m. to sunset November through March, this park has something for the entire family. There’s an 8-acre fenced-in dog park complete with doggie exercise equipment, a 2.5-acre dog park for dogs less than 30 pounds, trails, picnic areas, and an 80-acre lake perfect for fishing and boating. Dogs must have permits to play at this park.

Open from hour after sunrise to one hour after sunset, SpringBrook Prairie Dog Park has a special off-leash area for dogs to run freely, but dogs must be on leashes that are no longer than 10 feet while exploring all other areas of the park. Owners must have their dogs’ permits on them at all the times and follow all of the park’s rules.
