If your pooch is in the mood for a sandy adventure, make your way over to Porter Point Beach. It’s a quick 10 minute drive north of Neskowin in Cloverdale. If you need to add some mileage to your pup’s walk, start at Neskowin Beach and walk two miles north to Porter Point Beach. Regardless of how you get there, Porter Point will not disappoint. Make the short trek out to the rocky headland and see firsthand where the Nestucca River meets the Pacific Ocean. It’s about a mile roundtrip and is best done during low tide. There are all kinds of caves, tidepools, and driftwood pile for your pup to explore. You’ll probably even see some harbor seals bobbing around. Sounds furrific!

A hike to God’s Thumb is a must when in the area. Once a little known secret, its gorgeous views and interesting topography have made it a pupular destination. Pack up your pooch and head 20 minutes south to Otis and begin this epic hike. Two different trails lead to the large basalt peak. One clocks in at 4.4 miles and includes a side trip to The Knoll. This loop trail gains some elevation, so make sure your pooch is up for a challenge. The other is an out and back trail that is 3.4 miles. No matter which trail you take, once you reach God’s Thumb your furry pal will enjoy sweeping vistas of the ocean and coast.

South Pacific City
The Bob Straub State Park is an absolute puppy paradise. Located in Pacific City, this pawsome park is about 20 minutes north of Neskowin. It covers the Nestucca Sand Spit and is bordered by both the Nestucca River and the Pacific Ocean. Not only is there plenty of beach access, there are also established trails. Follow Bay Trail, Dune Ridge Trail, or the Riverview Loop so your dog can get a nice workout. After your walk, head down to the beach so he can splash in the waves and sniff around the surf. The Nestucca River is home to Chinook salmon that can reach 50 pounds. If you’re feeling lucky, go ahead and cast a line!
