Netarts is small community in Tillamook County. Since this little known town is off the beaten path, it’s a furrific destination for enjoying some peace and quiet. It’s nestled on the northern end of Netarts Bay and is surrounded by lush coastal rainforest. Needless to say, everywhere you look you’ll see photograph worthy scenery. If your pooch happens to get some bumps or bruises while exploring the area, head 10 minutes east to Tillamook for veterinary care.

Dogs living in or visiting Netarts have access to the Netarts Community Park. This pawsome park is the perfect place for your pup to stretch her legs and enjoy some afternoon sunshine. She can frolic around the open grass area before exploring the surrounding groves of trees. Picnic facilities are available, so pack a sandwich and some biscuits for your pal, and stick around for a leisurely lunch with great views of Netarts Bay.

The best place to access the beach in Netarts is at the end of Happy Camp Road. Pack up your pooch and head over for some time on the sand. This expansive beach is fairly flat and is the perfect spot for a stroll along the surf. Your pooch can soak in the views of the bay as he gets some much needed exercise. If he’s bursting with energy, follow the beach two miles north to Oceanside. The Happy Camp Hideaway is located near the beach parking lot. This resort has over a dozen pet friendly cottages available for rent. Not only will your pup have a charming room to drift off to dreamland, she’ll also be just a bone’s throw away from the beach.

Cape Lookout State Park is located 10 minutes from Netarts in Tillamook. This unique park includes a long sand spit that is bordered by Netarts Bay on the east and the Pacific Ocean on the west. Your leashed furry friend is welcome to sniff around the sandy beaches and get her paws wet. But this place isn’t just sand and surf; more than eight miles of trails meander through thick coastal forests. The Nature Trail is short but sweet, and your pooch can learn all about the native plants and trees while also getting a bit of exercise. The 2.4 mile Cape Trail takes you to the end of the spit. Views stretch for miles and miles. Sounds amazing!

Looking for a new place to take your pup? Grab his leash and make your way over to Symons State Scenic Viewpoint. This beautiful beach is just five minutes north of Netarts in Oceanside. It’s right off the side of the road and can be missed if you’re not looking for it. Since the beach is flat and sandy, it’s the perfect spot for your four legged friend to stretch his legs. Walk past the viewpoint sign and head down to the surf so he can roam around or chase the waves. You’ll even have amazing views of the off shore National Wildlife Refuge Three Arch Rocks.

Is your pup craving some time at the beach? Pack some water, snacks and a leash and head over to Oceanside Beach State Recreation Site for some fun in the sun. Located five minutes away in Oceanside, it’s a pupular spot with the local beachcombers, surfers, and hang gliders. You can either stick around and let your pooch explore the tidepools, or go for a walk along the surf. Follow the beach a couple miles south to Netarts so your pal can get a nice workout. Or check out the rock tunnel at the northern end of the beach. It leads to Maxwell Point and is only accessible during low tide.

Your furry BFF will be amazed at the beauty of the Cape Meares State Scenic Viewpoint. This Tillamook state park is 20 minutes north of Oceanside and is totally worth a visit. Sitting on a 200 foot tall headland, this site overlooks the ocean and is one of the most populated seabird nesting spots in North America. Watch for falcons, bald eagles, cormorants, and murres. This is also a prime whale watching spot, especially during the summer. Your pooch will love wandering around the three miles of trails that wind through old growth forests. While out and about, be sure to find the oddly shaped “Octopus Tree” and the largest Sitka spruce in Oregon.
