New Braunfels is a little Texas city that caters to good food and good times. The German heritage of the area is apparent to all who enter, as is the emphasis on outdoor recreation.
New Braunfels best space for off-leash play is the Puppy Playland Dog Park, located off of Landa Street. The park was created after a non-profit comprised of local citizens raised over $150,000 for the project. The park is now open from dawn until dusk every day. There are three sections – a large dog section (over 25 pounds), a small dog section (under 25 pounds), and an agility section. For owners, there are benches, water fountains, and three shaded pavilions.
New Braunfels has dozens of trails to hike with your four-legged friend. The Panther Canyon Nature Trail is perfect for a quick stroll through the wilderness. It is a 1.6-mile round trip. For something a little longer, try the Dry Cormal Nature Trail, which is a 2.25-mile loop.
Want to get together with other dog owners for a good cause? On-leash vaccinated dogs and their owners are welcome to participate in the annual Doggie Dash to raise money for the upkeep of the dog park. Following the race is live entertainment and visits from dog-friendly vendors.
If you’re looking for something off the beaten path in New Braunfels, head to Winery on the Gruene in the Gruene neighborhood. Relax on the patio and enjoy views of the water and sample local favorites. If you work up an appetite, head to nearby Adobe Verde for dog friendly dining. Adobe Verde offers made from scratch Mexican classics and some modern twists like vegetarian enchiladas. Dogs are welcome at any of the outdoor tables. Water bowls are provided!
New Braunfels Puppy Playground is a cute name for a great park. This park has it all: there are paths for walking, fully fenced in areas for small and large dogs, and a separate agility area for training and socializing shy dogs. Add in drinking fountains and kiddie pools accessible during the hotter months, and you have a place that dogs will love to visit again and again. New Braunfels Puppy Playground is the social heart of dog parks in the area. Any dog is guaranteed to feel like a puppy again when they’re off leash and surrounded by friends!
