North Kenwood is a small, historic neighborhood in Chicago's south side. The area has been designated as a Chicago Landmark district because of the ornate, historical buildings and houses that still occupy the neighborhood. As mentioned, the more residential areas are known for the grand houses and beautiful neighborhoods, but there are some remodeled apartments in historic buildings as well. Many of the houses date back to the late 19th century. The commercial areas are home to public schools, churches, chain and local restaurants, greenways, and access to public transportation. Unfortunately, there are no pet-related businesses in North Kenwood. Fun fact: notable residents of Kenwood include President Barack Obama and Muhammad Ali!

North Kenwood, like the rest of Chicago, experiences all four seasons: summer, fall, winter and spring. North Kenwood is also located immediately next to Lake Michigan, meaning the lake-effect may create sudden and heavy snowfall during the winter months.

North Kenwood is mostly flat, with little change in the elevation which means easy strolling through the neighborhood with no real challenges to be found. Chicago is actually located on a great plain and Illinois is one of the flattest states in America! This should make for a nice, leisurely walk for you and your pup! Additionally, most of North Kenwood's neighborhood has large, well-maintained sidewalks. In the summertime, many of these sidewalks, particularly in the residential area, are shaded by large, old trees. With that in mind, Kenwood is a largely artificial terrain, but the many trees and close access to Lake Michigan's shoreline help it feel a bit less urban.

The boundaries of North Kenwood are typically agreed to be Muddy Waters Drive to the north, the Chicago Metra Rail and Lake Michigan to the east, East 47th Street to the south, and South Drexel Boulevard to the west.

There are five greenways in the North Kenwood area. Additionally, there are several surrounding greenways that are within walking distance as well. The North Kenwood greenways include Gwendolyn Brooks Park, Kennicott Park (named for one of the area's earliest settlers!), and Harsh Park.

Gwendolyn Brooks Park is home to a playground and general recreation areas. During nicer weather, they often show movies in this park for you to enjoy with your friends and family. Kennicott Park has a playground, sports facilities, a recreation center, and general recreation areas. Unfortunately, there seem to be no off-leash areas for your pet in North Kenwood, so be courteous and respectful of the requirement to keep your pup on-leash throughout your visit.

Additionally, North Kenwood is immediately next to shoreline for Lake Michigan. There you will find William Davis Park, Sounding Bronzeville Gathering Space, Morgan Point, Oakwood-41st Street Beach, and plenty of walking trails to explore.
