Ipswich River Park is a 49 acre site that features a conservation area and restored wetlands, a paved two-mile walking path, wild flower meadows, tennis and basketball courts, playgrounds and picnic areas, softball, baseball, soccer and all-purpose fields, a street hockey rink, and horseshoe pits. Phew! The planning and building of the $3.2 million Ipswich River Park was very much a labor of love for the local community, and the park is dedicated to all North Reading citizens – past, present, and future – and promises to hold something for everyone.

Middlesex Fells Reservation
Sheepfold Dog Park is a 10-acre open meadow area located in Stoneham, Massachusetts as a part of the Middlesex Fells Reservation that is now used by dog walkers and picnickers. Within the Sheepfold area, dogs can run and play off-leash. This area is open to the public from 9 am to dusk. Outside of Sheepfold in the reservation, dogs must be on-leash at all times. There are woods nearby, and you can take a hike with your dog around the North Reservoir. As one visitor put it, “You’ll feel like you're deep in the wilderness!”

A little further afield but well worth checking out is the Dog Beach in Nahant, MA. There are only a few beaches on the North Shore where off-leash dogs are allowed during the summer, and this beach is one of them. In case you’re worried about your pooch wandering off into the water, Dog Beach has a rock wall which also acts as a barrier to keep dogs on the beach. Dog Beach is also a popular spot for kiteboarding and windsurfing, so you will have to keep an eye on Spot to make sure he doesn’t shred any kites!
