North Riverdale is a neighborhood in the northernmost part of Riverdale in the Bronx. It is bordered by Ludlow on one side, the Hudson River on another, and the Van Cortlandt Park on a third. This well-positioned neighborhood offers access to all kinds of interesting walking opportunities with your dog.

Homes in North Riverdale tend to be two or three story family homes with small but attractively landscaped yards that are often fenced. The sidewalk is relatively wide and there is a good divider between sidewalk and road, but due to the often fenced houses and narrow streets, you will feel the need to walk your dog on a relatively close leash through most of this neighborhood and it is not the best place to be on wheels with your dog.

You can walk along the water to enjoy the lovely breezes coming off of the bay with your dog, or head inland to explore the extensive forest of Van Cortlandt Park.

Walking through North Riverdale is not unpleasant, with attractive homes and extensive tree cover, but to walk with your dog on a loose leash you will likely be drawn to one of the more natural areas available to you from North Riverdale.

If you head towards the water, you can find a trail to explore with your dog and if you head towards the Wave Hill Public Gardens you can even find some areas where the tree cover comes nearly up to the waterway.

Van Cortlandt Park offers forested terrain where you can stick to the paths or enjoy hiking through the forest for a challenging exploration that will wear out your dog mentally and physically. Puppies especially need new experiences in order to develop into confident dogs, so it is important to expose your developing companion to new experiences.

Far into the forest, there is even a little pond where you and your dog can have an opportunity to see interesting wildlife.

There are several charming greenways available to North Riverdale for you to explore with your dog. The Wave Hill Public Gardens offer attractive areas to walk around, as well as a chance to see the forest press almost up to the water.

For the most extensive exploration and the best chance of seeing interesting wildlife, head inland towards Van Cortlandt Park. This park is composed of thick, mature forest and several grassy areas where you can play fetch or frisbee with your dog.

A forest of this size is large enough to support a good deal of wildlife, and while you can't go onto the adjacent golf course with your dog, this forest is even more packed with wildlife than if it did not have the golf course so near. You have a great chance of seeing not only residential and migratory bird life, but also raccoons, foxes, or even wild turkey or deer in this huge and beautiful forest.
