On the south end of the city is Tonawanda Creek, for which the city was named, but it is also known as The Lumber City, for being a major lumber transportation center until the 1970s. North Tonawanda doesn't have its own off-leash dog park, but the city does have a great parks system, and there are plenty of great places in town where you can walk with your dog on a leash. There are several dog parks in the surrounding cities and towns, so you'll never be far from an off-leash park.

North Tonawanda also has spots you can pop into for a bite to eat without leaving your dog at home. One such place is Ted's Hot Dogs. They serve charcoal-grilled hot dogs with all sorts of special add-ons and other treats. If you're a vegetarian, they also have options for you! Their outdoor tables are dog-friendly, but they don't offer table service, so your dog will have to remain outside while you go in to order. There are water stations in the park, as well as seating, shade, waste disposal items, and tunnels and bridges in the dog park. The dog park is open 24 hours a day, but be advised that it isn't lighted.

Amherst State Park is located in both Amherst, New York and Williamsville.
