Northwood is home to Nature Trails Park, a municipal park that features a 3-mile looping trail that runs through the woods and along the edge of a large field. Its fine gravel and sandy surface is great for sensitive doggy-paws and keeps them clean, too. With free parking off Curtice Road at the trailhead, this is a popular spot for local walkers and runners, and you may even see bicyclists. Exercise stations along the route provide some muscle- and agility-building as well, or just a place to sit down! Leashed pups are welcome on the easy, flat trail and they’ll appreciate the small mammals darting among the trees and through the grasses at this park. Woofderful!

Central East Toledo
This section of Toledo hosts the Dr. Richard D. Ruppert
Rotary Trail, which circles International Park and continues along the Maumee River. This
is a rail-trail of approximately 2.5 miles, paved with asphalt, that affords
the walker and his pup a view of the river and the sights of Toledo on the
opposite shore. Bicyclists, skaters and fishermen will share the path with you,
and it is wheelchair-accessible as well. Parking is available near Boers-Boyers
Way, and the start/finish point is at Navarre Avenue and Miami Street. but because this
is a continual loop, you and Fido can start anywhere! This neighborhood is also
home to Navarre Park, a green space within the city where dog-walkers and
runners gather to exercise, and in the winter is pawrfect for cross-country
skiing and sledding down the gentle hills! Please keep Fido on a leash!

Starr and Navarre
This neighborhood of Oregon, just to the north of Northwood, is where you’ll find dog-friendly Pearson Park, a multi-use park with ball fields as well as trails for hiking, running and biking. There’s always something to do here, from hiking to picnicking to watching the many birds. As one of the last places to find remains of the Great Black Swamp, the park boasts thick forest, a garden with a waterfall, and proximity to Lake Erie! Stone bridges and shelters dot the landscape, along with brilliant flowers on the park’s 624 acres. Add to that a highly inventive playground for the kiddos and you have the pawrfect place for a family outing, with Fido in tow! Arf!

Perrysburg City Center
Just a few miles north of Northwood is Perrysburg, whose City Center neighborhood is home to dog-friendly Orleans Park. This municipal park runs along the Maumee River and features a paved walking path where you and your fur-buddy can stroll while watching the goings-on on the river, which is popular for boaters and paddlers of all kinds. Or put in a canoe or kayak of your own and take Fido for a water-hike! The landlubber hiking trail connects Orleans Park to Fort Meigs via the new walking path and you can circle back to the parking area for a picnic at one of the tables provided. Or head up West Front St to Zingo’s Mediterranean Restaurant for a doggy-date at one of the tables in front of the eatery. With menu items like hummus and tabbouleh, gyros and chicken tawook, there’ll be something just pawlicious!

This neighborhood of Perrysburg is where you’ll find Woodlands Park, a space with lots of open space pawrfect for walking the fur-pup on leash. The crushed stone path totals about 1 mile and leads across grassy lawns and through the park’s lovely Japanese-style garden planted with ornamental grasses and trees, as well as perennial flowers. Each tree is labeled with its type for those interested in arboreal details, and the park has designed a Woodlands Tree Tour with photos and information. The shelter house and picnic pavilion each feature picnic tables, grills and restrooms, ideal for a family meal with the family pup. A great park for an afternoon or just a few hours, be sure not miss this one!
