Pawtuckaway

Pawtuckaway State Park is one of Nottingham’s main attractions. Hiking, camping, swimming, and boating are just some of the activities available at this beautiful park. Dogs can join in on the fun with a couple exceptions. Pets are not allowed during peak season, which runs Memorial Day weekend to Columbus Day weekend. They are also never permitted on the state beach. Bring your furry pal during off peak season and hike the trails around Reservation Road and Round Pond Road. If your dog is up for it, hike 2.4 miles to the summit of South Mountain. He’ll feel like he conquered the world!

Trails like Little Bear Loop, Hedgehog Ledge and Catamount Trail run around three miles, perfect for exercising your pup. If you have a more athletic dog, check out one of the longer trails. Newmarket Town Center

If you head 10 miles east of Nottingham you’ll come to the Town Center of Newmarket, home of Heron Point. This beautiful natural space sits right on the banks of the Lamprey River and is a pupperific place for a walk with your favorite canine buddy.  Hook on his leash and stroll around the forested shoreline and past some abandoned old mill buildings. The loop clocks in at just over a mile, so if you have a perky pup, you may need to go around twice. There is also a picnic area, so bring a lunch and stay awhile. Your pooch will love hanging out with you in such a puptastic setting.

This park also doubles as a teaching location for the University of New Hampshire, so don’t be surprised to see classes or research teams. It’s also pup-ular with joggers, so be sure to keep your buddy on leash.
