Oceanside, NY is an excellent town for dog-lovers. After the massive housing boom and influx of people following World War II, the area changed from a swamp into a populated hamlet. As numbers of residents increased, that hamlet has also grown to love its resident dogs. With three animal hospitals, it becomes apparent that Oceanside is a dog-friendly town.

This ocean city does offer dog-friendly places too, especially at the Oceanside Park. The park is over 20 acres of pawtastic outdoor space, filled with recreational fields, open plains, wooded areas, and paved trails that your pup is just itching to explore. Dogs have access to water, shade and all spaces in the park as long as they remain on-leash. Inside of Oceanside Park, there is an entrance in the back of the park along the coast with trails that lead to the rocky beach The beach and water are dog-friendly and just waiting for your pup to splash in!

The town not only house parks, but has plenty of dog-friendly restaurants to visit. Brasserie Persil offers Italian fare with outdoor, dog-friendly seating and complimentary water. The Ralph's Famous Italian Ices Stand also boasts outdoor seating where you can get a plain Italian ice treat for your furtastic pup.

The Southern Oceanside neighborhood, and most of Oceanside, NY, was once made up of swamplands, but during the early nineteenth century, the area was drained. Today, the Marine Nature Study Area is a preserve that helps to keep the remaining swampland intact. The preserve is dog-friendly, but dogs must remain on a leash that's 6 feet or shorter at all times within its borders. It's a small price to pay for access to the long trail that winds through the preserve, as well as other nature trails and metal paths that are elevated above the swamplands. Travel far enough, and you'll find a trail leading to a dog-friendly beach, where Fido can enjoy some time in the sun and water. Humans must come prepared with clean-up bags and water before entering the preserve.
