Looking for a coastal city with a low population density and plenty of outdoor areas for your pup to roam free? Pacific Palisades is located in the popular city of Los Angeles, but is perfect for those who prefer a quieter neighborhood. The veterinary center here is conveniently located just a few miles from every neighborhood, and offers an extensive list of services to help pet parents take care of all the essentials.

The perfect place for a true nature lover to reside, Pacific Palisades makes up for its lack of dog parks with an abundance of parkland and trails to explore. It is a primarily residential neighborhood, but residents can enjoy the convenience of nearby pet stores like the locally owned Collar & Leash shop. Remember that you’ll need to have a leash safely in tow whenever exploring the area, as off-leash pups are unfortunately frowned upon in Pacific Palisades. However, you can still head over fun outdoor areas like the Rustic Canyon Recreation Center, so long as you keep them carefully in tow.

You can also enjoy a bite to eat in one of the five dog-furiendly restaurants and cafes in the area. Stop by the Palisades Garden Café on the famous Sunset Boulevard for a healthy bite after a refreshing hike!

#1 Temescal Canyon Road

This small cluster of streets is cleverly named for the naming sequence of the streets, as they go in alphabetical order. If you enjoy frolicking in the Pacific Ocean air with your furry friends, consider a home in the Alphabet Street district. Just a short walk from a village area with tons of shops and restaurants – some that even have pet-friendly patios – this neighborhood is great for a small family. In the nearby mountains, your and your leashed pups can enjoy the Temescal Canyon Park. Explore over 100 acres of oak and sycamore canyons and scenic ridge top views. Plus, it extends into miles of different trails.

The cozy neighborhood of Riviera is located just northeast of Pacific Palisades and is home to a large population of married families (and their pets!). Brisk, mountainous lands border this lush area, which offers the purrfect location for a mid-day hike with the family. Trek over to the Sullivan Ridge Trail, where you can take a hike with your pup in tow – as long as they are safely leashed. The whole trail is 12.6 miles long round trip, which gives you and your furry friend the chance to really stretch your legs – all six of them!

This funky coastal neighborhood is located just 4 miles south of Pacific Palisades, in the sister town of Santa Monica. Considered a particularly dense urban area, Ocean Park is perfect for pups and pet parents who love to stroll the streets and socialize with neighbors. It’s also home to two spacious off-leash parks. Herb Katz Dog Park at Joslyn Park offers a 1.25-acre secure, fenced area with separate sections for large and small dogs. The Pacific Street Dog Park is just a few blocks away and features an acre of open space. To access the parks, your pooch must be licensed, have all vaccinations, and display the necessary tags.

Another great neighborhood for pups, Pico is also located in the city of Santa Monica. Closer to the beach, this area is located just outside of the downtown area, so residents can venture over to check out plenty of pup-friendly restaurants, or just venture through the streets. For some much-needed off-leash exercise, you can take your canine over to Memorial Dog Park. Just like the other doggy parks in the city, you will need a valid license or temporary permit to access the small, fenced-in park, but it is worth it to see happy tails wagging!

Looking for an area flush with activities you can do with your pets? Consider Malibu, a famous city on the coast of the Pacific Ocean. Just off the ocean, you can visit Malibu Bluffs Park where dogs are welcome on a leash. You will have to bring doggie bags to clean up, but it is well worth it for the coastal views. Just a few miles east, you can check out the dog-friendly Malibu Country Mart, where you can browse in the shops and the nearby cafes. John's Garden & Fresh Health Store offers healthy solutions and has a patio where you enjoy a bite alongside Fido! Keep your canine companion on a leash here.
