Palm Harbor was originally dubbed 'Sutherland,' which was a shortening of Southern Land and Development company. This company, Southern Land and Development, was actually responsible for the original formation of the community which is now known as Palm Harbor back in 1888. In 1952, the name was changed to Palm Harbor. Palm Harbor is located near the northern part of Pinellas County; Palm Harbor has great facilities for fishing, boating, and diving.

One can find several types of wildlife in the John Chestnut Sr. Park like raccoons, alligators, hawks, turtles and more. You can spend time boating at the lake or play softball in the field. A dog park, Chestnut Park Paw Playground, is also located within the park. The leash free dog park is fully fenced with facilities like cooling stations with showers and dog-level water fountains. Your nature-loving family and darling pet will have an enjoyable time here. Don’t forget to put your pup back on the leash outside the Paw Playground area.

The Fred Marquis Pinellas Trail extends from St. Petersburg to Tarpon Springs and is a multi-use trail everyone including dogs can enjoy. It is a 37-mile rail trail in Pinellas County offering different sorts of recreational activities like cycling, inline skating, walking or jogging. Rest areas, benches and water fountains are accessible for those who want to take in some or all of the trail. The trails also provide access points to some towns in the area. Dogs on leashes are permitted on the entire length of the trail. If you’re looking for somewhere to stay for a short vacation, you can stay at the Innisbrook Golf & Spa Resort. They accept pets like cats and dogs for a minimum fee of $250. The pet fee includes deep-cleaning of the accommodation.
