Pelham Gardens is in the Northeast section of New York, not far from Hempstead Bay. Pelham Gardens has the charming distinction of having the Pelham Parkway run along its entire perimeter on one side. This lovely little parkway provides a pleasant walking path and large grassy area that runs along the Parkway Road. While you won't be able to let your dog off-leash in the large grassy space since it is bordered by two roads, you can enjoy letting your dog walk on a long loose leash and toss a ball as you stroll along this grassy, wooded area.

Walking along the streets of Pelham Gardens is very pleasant, with the charming houses and well manicured little gardens, as well as plenty of tall trees. But the sidewalk is not wide and there's not much divider between sidewalk and road, so you may feel uncomfortable allowing your dog to walk on a loose leash down these neighborhood streets.

While houses in Pelham Gardens are generally well-kept and gardens are attractive, the close spacing of houses, small size of front yards, and not much room between sidewalk and road, may make you seek out another area for walking your dog on a loose leash or for bicycling, skateboarding, or rollerblading with your dog in Pelham Gardens.

The Pelham Parkway is a perfect place to walk your dog on a loose leash while enjoying walking on grass instead of concrete for a change, as well as appreciating the beautiful tall trees overhead. This park stretches the entire distance of one side of this neighborhood, and you can tell as you walk along that the trees have been growing unhindered for some time, as they are wide and stretch out over the large grassy area.

For an even more exciting walking experience, you can cross underneath the interstate and head towards the natural areas around the water.

The pleasant park that runs along the Pelham Parkway provides the most enjoyable place for you to walk your dog in Pelham Gardens. This large grassy area is thick with huge mature trees and will attract all kinds of interesting bird life, as well as provide a cooling walk on hot summer days with plenty of shade. There are  roads nearby and no fences between the green area and the road so you cannot let your dog off leash, but this is still a great place to let your dog wander on a long leash and sniff natural smells.

If you are looking for an even more intense natural experience, you can cross out of Pelham Gardens under the interstate and explore the wetlands around the water here. Natural spaces and beaches will let you and your dog enjoy wandering through this incredible natural area. If you want to cross the bridge, you can find your way to more luxurious wetlands in the Thomas Pell wildlife sanctuary.
