If you're looking for a dog-friendly activity in Peninsula that's a little less grueling than a hike, check out the Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath Trail. This 81-mile trail is ideal for dog walking -- you can access 20 miles of the trail through the national park, but there are also other access points throughout Peninsula. The trail closely follows a historic canal that was used for mules pulling boats between 1827 to 1913. The trail's surface varies from boardwalk to asphalt and crushed stone, and along your journey, you and your leashed dog will pass beautiful scenery, historical sites, national parks, and communities.

Bow Wow Beach Park in northeastern Stow, Ohio is less than 10 miles and only a 15-minute drive from Peninsula. This special 7.5-acre dog park surrounds a five-acre lake, so whether your dog prefers playing on dry land or cooling off in the water, you're covered! There is also a small dog section of the park, as well as various sections that are shaded or sunny. The double-gated entry system provides an added security measure, and your dog will love that there are grassy and sandy areas to play on. There are water stations for dogs, picnic tables, waste disposal supplies, and dog wash stations to clean up messy pups.

A half-hour drive northwest of Peninsula will get you to western Lakewood, Ohio and the Lakewood Dog Park. This fenced, off-leash park has a double-gated entry system and a separate small dog section, although if you'd like to use it, you will have to pass through the large dog section to get to it. The park was built in 2003, and while it initially had a grass surface, it was changed to light gravel, which has made for a cleaner and better maintained dog park. There are trees, benches, waste disposal supplies, and water in the dog park. Next to the dog park is the Metroparks Rocky River Reservation, where you'll find a variety of trails you can trek with your dog when they're on a leash.

Keyser Park is a 10-minute drive south of Peninsula in central Cuyahoga Falls. Keyser Park regularly hosts concerts and food trucks, and there are a variety of sports fields and even an off-leash dog park! The Keyser Dog Park is a two-acre fenced-in space that has separate big and small dog sections. There are water stations, waste disposal supplies, shaded areas, and seating available in the dog park, too! If you'd like your dog to join you in other areas of Keyser Park, they're welcome to do so, but they must be on a leash when they're not in the dog park.

This dog park was built in 2004, and it includes a big dog section and a different area for dogs who weigh less than 30 pounds. Your dog will get a kick out of the agility and play equipment, and you'll appreciate the double-gated entry system as an added safety measure.
