South Pine

Pine Valley Ranch Park on Crystal Lake Road is a beautiful area where you can take Fido fishing from the docks or hiking along the mountain trails. The trails do not offer much shade, so be sure to pack plenty of water bottles for you and your pup, and choose one of the shorter trails if you are hiking with young children or a mature pooch. You will need to keep Fido on a leash as you explore the area around the river. There are restrooms located throughout the park where you can dispose of doggie waste bags.

North Pine

People from all over the country come to the Pine area to visit the Staunton State Park. This state park covers almost 4,000 acres and features amazing streams and breathtaking waterfalls. You can hike with your pup along the rock outcroppings and admire the scenery. You will want to keep your pooch on a leash, as you encounter a variety of wildlife, including bears in the higher portions of the park. The paths are well maintained, and there are bathrooms available. Plan a day of hiking with your pup along the Elk Falls Overlook, or hike even further to see the waterfall at Lion’s Head.

South Elk Creek Road

You and Fido can access the Cathedral Spires Park Trailhead on SW Platte River Road and hike to the point of the mountain about a quarter of a mile in. The peaceful atmosphere is just what you need after a long day and you will hear the river nearby. You will want to hike this trail when you and your pup are feeling especially energetic since the 1,200-foot approach is strenuous. Once you have reached your destination, you will be amazed by the views and the beauty of the area. Be sure to keep your pup on a leash and pack your own doggie waste bags.

Buffalo Creek

When planning a day of hiking with the family, the Buffalo Creek Mountain Bike parking lot can be found on S Buffalo Creek Road just 7 minutes south of Pine. There are a variety of trails for all skill levels. Spend the day with your older pup hiking easier trails, or climb the higher paths with your energetic pup. There are bathrooms available near the parking lot, and the trails are well maintained. You will need to keep Fido on a leash while hiking these popular trails.

Foxton

A great option for camping with your family and the pups is the Reynold Park Campground just 10 miles northeast of Pine. The campground is just a half mile from a trailhead, and the campsites feature fresh water. You and your pooch can admire the amazing views, but you will need to get a free permit from the Jefferson County parks before you start your adventure. There are picnic tables available and a short, but slightly difficult loop trail that will give you views of Pike’s Peak. Plan a weekend with your furry family members and enjoy camping in the wilderness of Colorado
