Dog Areas in Pomfret

Pomfret is a tiny village in Charles County, situated in southern Maryland. Pomfret is the perfect place to find some peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. The surrounding areas have lush and welcoming public parks with trails and picnic options. No vet clinics have set up shop in Pomfret, but you'll find a couple of options in nearby La Plata.

Myrtle Grove Wildlife Management Area is a one-of-a-kind place to visit with Fido! Located in the forest bottomlands of Mattawoman Creek, the area covers more than 4,460 acres of natural and man-made wetlands and forests. This is a prime spot to do some wildlife watching! Pooches are welcome but should stay on their leashes at all times. Apart from walking trails, the wildlife area also offers ponds for fishing and even a shooting range. Keep this in mind if you have a timid pup!

Bensville Park in White Plains is another pet-friendly park not far from Pomfret. Alongside playgrounds and sports fields, this park offers plenty of trails to explore with a leashed pup. Beware, though -- some trails are used by cyclists as well, so if your pup doesn't like sharing the path, plan your adventure accordingly.

Make sure to take a camera with you -- you'll want to snap some pics of your pooch! Mount Aventine Mansion is one of the most pawpular local attractions here; however, if you travel with Fido, he won't be allowed inside the buildings or on the grounds. But with so much space to explore, we don't think your pup will mind too much!
