Price Avenue sits just a block off of the Dale Maby Highway in an older neighborhood of single-family homes. One of the biggest concerns with taking your dog for a walk in this area is the lack of sidewalks. The good news is that there are parks on either coast with dog park sections to visit.

One reason so many have chosen to make this part of Florida home is the climate! There are no days that you cannot take your pup out for a walk. With winter highs in the low 70s and summer highs in the high 80s to the low 90s, it just doesn’t get any better. One thing to watch, however, is the streets in the summer heat which can be hot enough to burn your pup's pads. Try going out for your walks early in the morning before the sun starts to heat them up to avoid any injury!

Like most of the Tampa area, the terrain along Price Avenue and around it is flat. If flat wasn't already a big enough obstacle to a nice long, satisfying walk, then perhaps the lack of sidewalks might provide another. Along Price Ave. and most of the other streets, you may have a hard time finding a sidewalk for the two of you to use. Instead, this leaves you with little option but to walk on the streets. If you do go out, be sure you wear reflective clothing, especially at night, and walk against traffic so you can see vehicles coming.

The only other viable alternative is to hop in the car with your dog and cruise over to Ballast Point Park on the east coast or to Grady Park South on the west coast. However, you may have to wait until the Gandy Bridge construction project has been completed.

In this particular area of Tampa, green space beyond private yards is very hard to find. In fact, beyond the YMCA just to the north, the only other green space is in the middle of the Hwy 92 Interchange and you really shouldn't risk taking your pup for a walk in there. A much better choice would be to head to the east coast and try Ballast Point Park where there is an off-leash dog park, a water play area for the kids, a fishing pier, and a concession stand offering seafood and more.

Just to the south of Ballast Point is Gadsden Park. Here you can stroll along the MacDill Trail, an asphalt trail that consists of two loops totaling 1.47 miles long or let your pup loose in the off-leash dog park. Once the Gandy Bridge construction project is complete, Gandy Park South will be a beautiful place to take your pup for a walk.
