Dixon Springs State Park

Dixon Springs State Park is set near the junction of Route 146 and Illinois Route 145. This is a vast and pet-friendly recreation area within Shawnee National Forest. Every minute of the 50-mile drive from Pulaski is worth it for this gem! There’s a cool spot in the park where you can watch birds and check off the ones you’ve seen on a personal checklist. Metropolis is a small town overlooking the mighty Ohio River, right on the Illinois-Kentucky border. The downtown area is centered on Ohio River Scenic Byway, which unites commercial and residential space. If you are looking for outdoor activities, Fort Massac State Park is your best bet! This is a scenic state park with a historic fort located just steps away from downtown. Although the fort is a replica, it does look like a real one!
