West Rancho Santa Fe is home to the Rancho Santa Fe Field. This simple park is a great place to walk your dog. It’s a large, open grassy area with small amenities like a public restroom. It’s used by many sports leagues to host games, but any time the fields aren’t in use, your dog can romp on leash to his heart’s content. It’s a nice alternative to walking your dog down city streets, and the views from the field are great, especially towards sunset. There are drinking fountains, but you’re going to have to bring a bowl for your pup.

The hike is rated as easy, and is popular with joggers, walkers, and bird watchers. It winds through beautiful expanses near San Elijo Lagoon. Hikers can choose to keep exploring, or come back out the way they came after a mile and a half. Leashed dogs will love the natural aspect of the trail. Sensible Cardiff in the nearby town of Cardiff is only a ten minute drive from Rancho Santa Fe. San Elijo Lagoon is an amazing wildlife area and place to take your dog. It’s one of the last, and the largest, remaining coastal wetland in the San Diego area. As tempting as it could be to let your dog explore, the area is a preserve for plants and animal species, so all dogs must remain on leash in the park. Your dog will have so much to do that she won’t even mind! There are seven miles of walking paths through the park, and many different areas to see and smell!
