Richmond Town is a beautiful neighborhood on Staten Island. Charming one and two story houses are set back from the sidewalk with well-maintained grassy yards, attractive shrubbery, and plenty of mature trees. Most of the wide roads have sidewalks on both sides with a grassy divider between sidewalk and road that is lined with tall trees.

Richmond is home to several cemeteries including the Frederick Douglass Memorial Park, the Ocean View Cemetery, and the Mount Richmond Cemetery. While you should not walk your dog within the cemetery boundaries, there are pleasant places to walk along the borders of the cemeteries.

There is also a lovely green space in the midst of the neighborhood that is between the Frederick Douglass Memorial Park and the Mount Richmond Cemetery. This expansive grassy area is well kept and studded with mature trees so it can be a pleasant place to throw a ball with your dog.

This neighborhood is composed of primarily straight neighborhood streets. Walking along the streets is very pleasant on the wide, offset sidewalks. If you are comfortable on a wheeled device with your dog, these straight streets and wide sidewalks with plenty of grass on either side can be a great place to enjoy bicycling or skateboarding with your dog.

The wide cemeteries in this neighborhood should not be entered with your dog, but there are some nice walking trails along the borders where you can enjoy the sense of open grassy space and the pleasant mature trees without entering the cemetery.

In the section of the neighborhood between two cemeteries, there is a nice green space that you can enjoy with your dog. This space is flat and grassy and studded with mature trees that are pleasant to sit under with your dog on hot New York days and that block the wind on cooler days.

While there is plenty of green space in Richmond Town, you can't walk on most of it with your dog, since it is cemetery grounds. There is a nice green space in the middle of the neighborhood between two cemeteries, but if you are looking for more room to play around Richmond Town there is a nice park nearby.

Just a couple of blocks away you will find King Fisher Park. This large and attractive park is densely wooded for a pleasant forest experience with your dog. While the majority of this park is thick with trees, there is a small pond near one side of the park where you can enjoy a glimpse of natural beauty where the trees meet the water.

This is also a wonderful place to see some of the wildlife seeking refuge from the thickly populated area around Richmond. All sorts of small wildlife like raccoons and foxes, as well as many types of birds, will seek out the pond for a source of fresh water.
