South Rochester
Located in South Rochester, the Rochester Dog Park is perfect to take your pup for some pawsome off-leash fun. This dog park is separated into two parks for small and large breeds, and offers benches so you can relax while your pup goes plays the day away. There is a membership fee to belong to this park, but they do allow a one-time guest pass to make sure this is the dog park for you and your pooch, so make sure you register before you head here. On the outskirts of the park is a pond that your pup can jump into to cool off if the heat is too much.

North Rochester
On the banks of the Cocheco River is Hanson Pines, a great park to take your dog for a nice walk or jog. Hanson Pines has an outdoor swimming pool, bathhouse, playground, and two basketball courts, so there is no shortage of people out and about here! There is a pawsomely well-defined wooded walking trail your pup will love to explore, and a footbridge over the Cocheco River. Make sure that while you are visiting the park, your dog stays on leash and you clean up after him since the park can get busy during popular hours.

Old Dover Rd/ Oak Ridge
Across from Skyhaven Airport is a wilderness waiting to be explored. The William H. Champlin, Jr. Forest is a large green space that houses woodlands, fields, pools and wetlands, and of course, trails for you and your pup to traverse. A kiosk leads the way to the the varied trails here that are marked with yellow blazes, and range from flat land to moderately sloped. The William H. Champlin Jr, Forest Reservation Trail is the longest at 2.2 miles, and offers spectacular and up close views of the many diverse plants and wildlife inside this pawsome space. Be sure to bring your own water, as there is none available for drinking on site.

Gonic/ Pickering
The Gonic Trails are a great place to walk your dog away from the traffic and hustle of city life. The area offers three trails that invite hikers, bikers, and leashed dogs to explore. Though the area is located next to a landfill, but you won’t notice it through the gorgeous green around you. The trails that wind through the evergreen and deciduous trees are open year round, and even offer an opportunity for cross country skiing and snowshoeing in winter. Watson’s Way and Locke’s Local Loop are both looped trails under 1.5 miles each. Luanne’s Lane is not looped, and offers explorers a 3.5 miles trek both ways. Get lost in the woods here, and perhaps you may stumble across the onsite waterfall.

A short drive from Rochester is the neighborhood of Cocheco in the town of Dover, home to the Longhill Dog Park. This pawsome fenced in dog park has an area for both small and large dogs, and offers plenty of shaded areas and picnic tables to relax at while your dog is out socializing. The park is mainly sand and dirt, but they do have a pool for the dogs to play in when it gets a little too hot for them. If your dog isn’t up for socializing, you can still enjoy a nice walk around Longhill Memorial Park with your pup. While walking around the park, your dog must remain on leash.
