Dog Areas in Rumford

1 Eatery

Although it's technically a neighborhood within the northern end of East Providence, Rhode Island, Rumford has taken on a life of its own! Although this area was originally settled way back in 1636, the town has undergone plenty of changes. At first, Rumford wasn’t even considered part of Rhode Island; it was actually considered part of two towns in the neighboring state of Massachusetts. Rumford didn’t become part of Rhode Island until 1862 - over two hundred years after its founding. With its dense population and quaint main street district, there’s sure to be something for everyone.

Unfortunately, the “something for everyone” doesn’t really extend to our canine companions. If you’re hoping to have some fun and want to bring your dog along, there’s only one dog-friendly restaurant available, which is located in the southern end of Rumford. Don’t fret just yet, though! With Rumford being so close to East Providence and Providence, there’s fun to be had that’s only just a hop, skip, and jump -- or car ride -- away. There are several veterinarian clinics located within these two cities as well, so you’re never too far away from getting care for your dog. Give Rumford a go; you get the small town vibe with a major city just next door.

This restaurant serves up delicious Portuguese cuisine -- both classics and modern dishes. Locals rave about the grilled jumbo shrimp and barbecued chicken. There are plenty of outdoor tables where your dog can dine with you, but outdoor seating isn’t available when it’s too cold or it’s raining, so plan around that. Your dog will need to be on a leash and use his best table manners!

Sometimes, though, you don’t want anything fancy; a simple sandwich or salad will do. On those days, visit The Sandwich Hut, which is a local deli. Your dog can dine with you on the patio, but he’ll need to stay on his leash. Try to resist giving your dog a bite; can you withstand the puppy eyes?
