When people think of St. Louis, they often imagine the Gateway Arch rising into the sky. St. Louis is home to a variety of other attractions, however, including the more than 100 parks maintained by the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Forestry.

The largest of these parks is Forest Park, which first opened to the public in 1876 and covers nearly 1,300 acres of land. More than 12 million people visit every year, and many bring their dogs with them. Walk your pup through this urban oasis, and enjoy the sights and the community gathered here. The Treecourt Unleashed Dog Adventure Park is a popular site for dogs that prefer to run freely. A membership fee is required for access, but the money goes towards maintenance and making sure that every visitor is able to enjoy a beautiful scene and pleasant environment. The over 23 acres here offers plenty of room for romping while benches provide human guests with a place to rest.

If you find yourself craving a bite to eat, stop in at one of the dog-friendly restaurants in St. Louis. The Boathouse at Forest Park is the perfect place to grab brunch on a day out at the park, while the Bridge Tap House and Wine Bar is always happy to seat you and your pup at one of their sidewalk tables.

Burroughs, Tennessee Williams, Maya Angelou, Miles Davis, and many more. The Walk of Fame is located on Delmar Boulevard, rated one of the top ten streets in America. It’s a great place to shop, eat, and enjoy live entertainment and events. Some of the shops and restaurants in the Delmar Loop allow well-behaved, leashed pets inside--just ask permission first.

The park features a vast recreation center, two lakes, a pool, horseshoe pits, soccer fields, tennis courts, and a walking and biking path. Leashed dogs are allowed in most outdoor areas of the park. The park also has some interesting history behind it. During the construction of Forest Park in the 1870s, citizens living in the southern part of the city were hesitant to pay taxes on a park they felt was too far away to enjoy. City officials then promised to construct a new park, and Carondelet was born. Today, it’s the third largest park in St. Louis.
