About 15 miles south of Smithfield, you and Fido can visit Snake Den State Park, which is located in Johnston. If you and your dog love nature, this is the perfect place to explore together! Snake Den has few walking tails for the two of you to take a hike on. When you get to the welcome center, you’ll be asked to fill out a form and provide general information about your dog; this is helpful in case he gets away from you. You’ll need to have a leash and proof of your dog’s rabies vaccination on hand.

Just a quick, 20-minute drive up the road will put you and your furry friend in Providence’s Federal Hill neighborhood, where you and your playful pooch can visit Dexter Dog Park. This popular bark park allows your dog to get some off-leash exercise while socializing with other dogs, which is important to the development of good manners in your pet. Water is provided by the park, but when it comes to cleaning up after your pooch, make sure you bring along some waste disposal bags. If the park isn’t too busy, you can also bring along your dog’s favorite toy.

Chase Farms, located just on the edge of Lincoln State Park, is about eight miles from Smithfield. This spacious area is sure to be a ton of fun for both you and Fido. If you like hiking, explore one of the trails together. If the weather's nice enough, why not take a dip in the pond? Dogs are allowed to cool off, too. Many locals let their dogs get some off-leash exercise in Chase Farms, but there are rules against this, and if you get caught, you could receive a ticket. Use your own discretion.
