Not all areas are open to dogs — the Lasershow Lawn, moving attractions, and walk-up trail are all off-limits — but dogs are allowed on rented watercraft as long as they bring their own life jackets.

Just over the city limits in Stone Mountain, the Yellow River Park has almost 566 acres of woods and riverside trails to explore with your on-leash fur family. The one mile paved trail is perfect for the short-legged or tender-pawed members of your pack. For a bigger challenge, though, the 12 mile unpaved hiking trail network takes you deep into nature. The area’s avid hikers advise that the trail network can be a little confusing at first, so they recommend newcomers stay on the riverside trail rather than attempt a loop through the woods. The trails are also used by equestrians, so safeguard your own shoes and let your pups enjoy all the interesting smells.

Southwest Lawrenceville
Ronald Reagan Park is technically in Lawrenceville but only 5 miles from the center of Snellville. At 25 acres, the park is busy and neighborly but has plenty of space to explore. We think your pack will want to head straight for the off-leash dog run! There are separate fenced areas for small and large dogs; water is available on-site, but bring a dish and some waste bags. For some on-leash exercise, there’s also a .75 mile walking trail. With a skate park, horseshoes, bocce ball, and shuffleboard facilities, too, maybe your pups will find a hidden athletic talent — or at least enjoy watching you goof off.

Tribble Mill Park is in the southeastern corner of Lawrenceville, just a few miles outside of Snellville. The short trip is worth it for this 713-acre nature preserve with historic mill ruins. With a 3.5-mile paved mixed-use trail that circles Ozora Lake, Tribble Mill is a peaceful place to relax and enjoy the scenery. More adventurous packs might want to explore the unpaved equestrian and hiking trails that branch off into the surrounding woods and down to Chandler Lake; you can download a trail map from the park’s website. Need more nature? The leafy Harbins Park is just a few miles to the east in Dacula and offers an additional 4.5-mile paved trail and an extensive network of unpaved hiking and equestrian trails.
