The town of Somerset is located in Bristol County, east of New York and close to the Rhode Island border. Somerset was first settled in 1677, and was officially incorporated in 1790. Historically, it was an important shipping point and is now known chiefly for power generation. The town is connected to nearby Fall River by the Brightman Street Bridge in the north and the newer Veterans Memorial Bridge.

Unfortunately, there aren’t any parks or beaches in Somerset that allow dogs, however you can still have a great visit to this part of the world. There is a veterinary clinic in town, should the need arise. Quality Inn Somerset is a dog-friendly base camp for the area, located along Lee River. Over on the other side of town is Taunton River, where you can walk along Riverside Ave and check out the old ferry landing.

Del’s Frozen Lemonade is a pup-friendly stop for a sweet treat in Somerset. Order yourself one of their delicious ice creams and take a set at one of the outdoor benches. Your dog may even enjoy one of their pooch-safe flavours, such as watermelon, blueberry or peach-mango.

Somerset has plenty to offer and is the gateway to many other nearby pup-friendly places. No matter where you choose to explore, you and your dog are sure to enjoy your stay.

Elm Street Acres is a picturesque nature spot to take your pup for a trail walk. There are tracks throughout this area for you to traverse, but take a GPS, comfortable shoes, food and water. The trail is not paved and will take some exploring, so allow plenty of time. There are also walking trails in nearby Quirk Mello Conservation Area. This is also a much-unchareted area, so go prepared for an adventure! Keep your pup on a lead as this is a conservation area, and always clean up after him.
