Those looking to walk their dog in town should visit the Joseph B. Clarke Rail-Trail, which can be accessed in central Sparkill. This 4.3-mile trail is one of 1,600 trails that connect across the United States that were created from formerly abandoned railway lines. Along your trek, you and your dog will go through scenic forests, quaint neighborhoods, and other noteworthy spots. Your dog must be on a leash while you're on the Joseph B. The northeastern corner of the village of Elmsford in Westchester County, New York is only ten miles from Sparkill. This area is also where you'll find the Elmsford Dog Park, an off-leash dog run with separate areas for big and small dogs. Visitors love that there are so many shaded areas and places to sit so you can watch your doggo play in comfort. The park also provides visitors with doggy bags and trash cans, but don't forget to bring your own drinking water and bowl for Sparky. Elmsford is also known for its many unique and exciting stores, so while you're there, be sure to have a look around town!

You can drive from Sparkill to the southern tip of South Nyack in about five minutes, and this is where you'll find the Elizabeth Place Dog Park. This spacious off-leash park is one big open field where dogs of all sizes interact, rather than being separated by weight. Not only is there a water hose and bowls throughout the park, but regulars have also set up plastic pools where dogs can splash and swim. There are also seating areas, shady spots, and waste disposal supplies inside of the park.

The village of Sleepy Hollow in Hudson Valley is a historic and picturesque town that's only ten miles from Sparkill. The southwestern corner of the town is home to the Kingsland Point County Park. This lovely 18-acre county park has sports fields and courts, playgrounds, fishing facilities, picnic areas, and hiking trails. On top of all that, there's even an off-leash dog park! The Kingsland Point Dog Park is a vast fenced area where dogs can run and play, and you'll find running water, seating, and waste disposal supplies inside of the off-leash area. Be sure to pick up an off-leash permit before letting your dog off-leash.

Only two miles and less than a ten-minute drive from Sparkill is the Piermont Dog Park in eastern Piermont, New York. This off-leash park has an all-dog area where dogs of any size can play together, as well as a separate section just for small dogs. Piermont Dog Park is a membership-based dog park, so be sure to register first. This park runs on volunteers and donations and is maintained by dedicated regulars. There are waste disposal stations, seating areas, and double-gated entryways at the dog park, but make sure to bring your own water and bowl. You can also walk your dog on a leash at the nearby Piermont Pier if you'd like!

There's a pawesome dog park in the Bronx known as Pelham Bay Park Dog Run, and it's a little more than 20 miles from Sparkill. This was one of the first off-leash dog parks to be built by the NYC Parks Department, and it's beloved by the community. In 2013, the dog run underwent extensive renovations to update the fencing, water supply, landscaping, and seating areas. There are separate areas for big and small dogs, and the ground cover consists of wood chips to make it easier to clean up after your pet. You'll find drinking water for dogs, waste disposal stations, and in the summer, there are plastic pools set up where dogs can swim.
