St. Albans is a pleasant community in Queens near South Jamaica and close to the JFK Airport. This is a large neighborhood with long, straight streets. Homes in St. Albans are generally attractive single-family homes made of brick or with charming siding. Homes are closely spaced with narrow alleys between themĀ and small yards that are often fenced. There is generally no divider between the narrow sidewalk and the road, but neighborhood streets are typically not very busy. You will probably feel comfortable walking your dog on a relatively loose leash in this neighborhood, but unless you have very good control on your skateboard, bicycle, or roller blades, this may not be the best neighborhood for those activities.

Saint Albans offers a relatively large park in the Roy Wilkins Park. This park is composed of several ballparks, but also has lots of grassy areas for you and your dog to enjoy, as well as walking paths through tree covered areas.

Walking through the streets of St. Albans is pleasant, with the attractive historic buildings that are set back from the road. While sidewalks are not wide and there is not much of a divider between the sidewalk and road throughout most of the neighborhood, the relative lack of heavy traffic and only intermittently fenced front yards will still make you feel comfortable walking your dog on a loose leash through this neighborhood. Plenty of tall trees will give you lots of shade during the summer and protection during winter walking.

St Albans also offers a pleasant park that you will enjoy walking around with your dog. While much of Roy Wilkins Park is composed of sports fields, there are lots of tree-filled areas and grassy places for you to walk around with your dog as well. Fencing around most of this park can give you an extra layer of security in case your dog should get off of their leash.

Roy Wilkins Park is a large park located towards one corner of Saint Albans. While much of this park is made up of various sports fields, there are lovely walking paths under trees around the sports fields where you can let your dog walk on a loose leash. Large grassy areas give you somewhere to throw a ball or Frisbee with your dog, while plenty of benches and community areas will let you relax on your walk with your dog.

For a little bit of a more natural experience, you can head to Railroad Park and its extensive forested area. This park is left primarily wild, so you can get the relatively rare experience of hiking with your dog right here in Queens. This park, as you might imagine, borders the railroad, so if your dog is very sensitive to loud noises, be careful walking together in this forested park.
