The city of Stone Mountain, Georgia is located in Dekalb County, not too far outside of Atlanta. Being so close to Atlanta means there’s always something exciting going on nearby. Interestingly enough, Stone Mountain’s main attraction and its namesake isn’t actually located in the city! However, there are a few different veterinarian clinics in Stone Mountain, so if you need care for your sick pup, you’re certain to find one that works for you!
If you’re looking to get active with your furry friend, Stone Mountain isn’t the best place, as there are no dog parks in the city. Don’t panic, though – there are plenty located just a quick drive away. However, if you’re looking to just grab a bite to eat with your pooch, you’re in luck! Stone Mountain is home to two dog-friendly restaurants. Café JAYA is a local, non-profit coffee house where you can enjoy a latte on the patio with your dog right beside you. If you want something a bit heavier, The Village Corner serves up authentic German cuisine. Delicious! Leashed, well-behaved dogs are welcome at both establishments.
All in all, Stone Mountain, Georgia is a great place for all the members of your family, and that includes the four-legged ones!
Just five miles west of Stone Mountain, you and your playful pup can go visit Clarkston Dog Park at Milam Park! This spacious park has a rustic feel to it, as it’s full of trees your dog can use as a makeshift obstacle course. There’s plenty of room for Fido to run around with his pawesome new friends. With a double-gated entry, this fenced-in bark park is completely secure, allowing your dog to play safely. Water is available so your pooch doesn’t get overheated. Unfortunately, this park has breed restrictions that forbid both Pit Bulls and Rottweilers.
Lenora Dog Park, located in Snellville, is only about ten miles from Stone Mountain, and no matter what type of dog you have, he’s sure to have a ball! This bark park is huge, and there are three separate areas. One area is for small dogs, another is for large dogs, and the final area is for any and all dogs! This allows your dog to play with pups he feels the most comfortable with, and that’s a great option for socializing your dog. Water is provided, and if your dog has a lot of energy, he can play on some of the agility equipment provided by the park.
Glenlake Dog Park is another awesome pawpportunity for you and your canine companion! This dog park can be found in Decatur, about 11 miles from Stone Mountain. This dog park – commonly referred to as “the dog run” – has plenty of room for your dog to run around and get some off-leash exercise. Be aware that this dog park is popular with bigger dogs, according to locals, so you might want to keep that in mind if you’re bringing along your little dog. Water isn’t provided, and neither are waste bags, so make sure to bring some from home.
The aptly named Oakhurst Dog Park is located in Decatur’s Oakhurst neighborhood, which is about 30 minutes outside of Stone Mountain. Locals claim that Oakhurst Dog Park is the nicest dog park in town! This bark park has plenty of room for your dog to enjoy some time off his leash. One section of the park is flat, while the other side has a beautiful hill and some shrubbery. No matter what your dog’s preference, he’s sure to enjoy time making some new friends! Water is provided, but please bring your own waste bags to help keep the park tidy.
About 30 minutes east of Stone Mountain, you and your pup can visit Ronald Regan Dog Park. No matter what your paw-litical affiliation is, your dog is sure to have a grand ol’ time! Just over two acres in size, this dog park is fully fenced in, meaning your dog can have some off-leash fun. There’s a separate area for smaller dogs, and this includes puppies, so you can start socializing your pup from an early age. That’s important in the development of good manners! Please bring along water and waste bags with you when you visit, as none are provided.
