West Sturgis

Is your pup ready for a walk? Clip on his leash and make your way over to Centennial Park. With trees to sniff and grassy areas to explore, this park will be the perfect afternoon pick-me-up for your pooch. When he’s ready to get a move on, follow the paved Sturgis Bike Path east and you’ll come to Woodland Park. If your pal needs to rest his paws, chill out on one of the benches. This park has a lot of mature trees, so it stays cool and shady in the summer. Give your dog a big drink of water before continuing your pawsome walk.

East Sturgis

The Fort Meade Recreation Area sits on the eastern border of Sturgis. Leash up your pup and head over for a pawsome adventure. The 11 mile Centennial Trail is the park’s main trail, and is the Sturgis section of the 111 mile trail that stretches across several cities. Follow this trail for as long as your pup’s legs can handle. Your buddy will love the amazing views of rolling hills, forests, and grasslands that South Dakota is known for. The park also has picnic facilities, so pack a sandwich for you, and a bone for your pup, and stay for lunch.

Your pooch will love trotting around this tree filled park. It’s situated alongside Spearfish Creek and has a fountain, playground and plenty of green space. It also has access to the Spearfish Recreation Path. Follow this 7.5 mile paved path so your pup can get some much needed exercise. After your walk, stop by the Bay Leaf Café for some Mediterranean style lunch where Fido can join you at one of the outdoor tables.

Deadwood

The small town of Deadwood is home to the northern most access point of the George S. Mickelson Trail, the 109 mile trail that stretches vertically across western South Dakota. Hop in your car and drive west of Sturgis for 25 minutes and you’ll come to this trailhead. Your pooch will wag her tail as she walks along this path as she experiences the same rugged beauty that brought the gold miners to the area decades ago. When your pup is all tuckered out, stop by Pump House Coffee and Deli for some refreshments. Sit at one of the outdoor tables with your pal as you sip a drink and nibble a pasty.
