Sturgis is in Meade County on the northern end of the Black Hills, just minutes from rolling hills and rocky granite peaks. What this small town is famously known for, however, is the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Every August, thousands of motorcyclists gather for 10 days, turning Sturgis into one giant party with concerts, rides, and street fairs. But this community doesn’t just love Hogs- it also loves dogs! Two local vets keep the local and visiting canine population healthy and happy.

It’s no secret that dogs love parks. Sturgis has some pawsome parks just calling your pup’s name. Grab her leash and head over to the City Municipal Park where she can sniff her way around the grassy area. The mature trees make this park nice and cool in the summer. Bring some water, snacks, and biscuits for your pooch, and hang out for a bit.

If Sturgis is just a stop on your itinerary, make a reservation at one of the pet friendly hotels in town. Best Western Sturgis Inn gladly welcomes four legged guests, even those on the larger side. Your dog can also drift off to dreamland at Holiday Inn Express and Suites Sturgis. If you are traveling in an RV, check out Bulldog Creek Campground.

With so many furrific options, this town will make your pup feel like a canine King!

Is your pup ready for a walk? Clip on his leash and make your way over to Centennial Park. With trees to sniff and grassy areas to explore, this park will be the perfect afternoon pick-me-up for your pooch. When he’s ready to get a move on, follow the paved Sturgis Bike Path east and you’ll come to Woodland Park. If your pal needs to rest his paws, chill out on one of the benches. This park has a lot of mature trees, so it stays cool and shady in the summer. Give your dog a big drink of water before continuing your pawsome walk.

Follow this trail for as long as your pup’s legs can handle. Your buddy will love the amazing views of rolling hills, forests, and grasslands that South Dakota is known for. The park also has picnic facilities, so pack a sandwich for you, and a bone for your pup, and stay for lunch.

Hop in your car and drive west of Sturgis for 25 minutes and you’ll come to this trailhead. Your pooch will wag her tail as she walks along this path as she experiences the same rugged beauty that brought the gold miners to the area decades ago. When your pup is all tuckered out, stop by Pump House Coffee and Deli for some refreshments. Sit at one of the outdoor tables with your pal as you sip a drink and nibble a pasty.
