You need to keep your pup on a leash at all times, but the park gives you access to the playground, and is the perfect place to have a picnic and roam around the grassy space. The open green area often has dog-friendly events, such as movie screenings, concerts and parades. There’s a picnic pavilion with room for about 40 people. A gazebo stands at one part of the park, offering a place to sit and some shade. The shelter house offers bathroom facilities, which are open in the summer months. The park is open sunup to sundown.

Are you in the mood for a nice stroll with your furry friend? Prairie Grass Trail spans 29 miles across mostly rural farmland. It’s a part of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy’s nationwide effort to turn old rail lines into walking trails. This trail begins in London and ends in Xenia and follows US 42. The first mile has several picnic areas and restrooms for trail-goers; after that, it’s mostly rural and flat. You’ll pass through a few small towns, but it’s important to pack enough water. The end of the trail comes up on an old, beautifully restored railroad depot.

Northwest West Jefferson

Roberts Pass Trail offers is a simple 6.5-mile railroad-turned-walking-trail. It’s managed by the nonprofit organization Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, which works to convert old railroad tracks across the country into asphalt trails for walkers, bikers, horseback riders, cross-country skaters and anyone else who’s active. The trail, which runs through Madison County, is completely dog-friendly. Most of the trail is on farmland, but there is also some shade along the path. The trails is wheelchair accessible. You can find parking for the trail on Maple Street at the trail's western end in London and where the trail meets Wilson Road SE in the east.

Prairie Oaks Metro Park is an adventure you and your pup won’t want to miss out on! Explore 500 acres of dense prairies, view the National Scenic River that flows through the 2,203-acre park, and fish along the several deep lakes in the park. Darby Bend Lakes even offers a doggie beach for your pooch to swim. And dogs are welcome on all designated trails, picnic areas and roadways. There are several trails, ranging from half a mile to 3.5 miles. Just make your dog is on a leash that’s no longer than six feet. The park is open from 6:30 a.m. to dark.

Spindler Dog Park offers everything you and your pup need to have for an enjoyable time. Be sure to check out the rules list posted clearly on in the area. Then get ready for some off-leash fun! The park is separated into two parts: one for the older pups and one for the smaller canines. Keep your furry loved one hydrated at the water fountains. Bathrooms are available.
