A visitor or a resident with a pup will feel welcomed and safe in Summit. There are two veterinary clinics in town for routine care. For exercise and fun, there are nine parks within the city limits. Some green space for a leashed pup and person to experience is never far away. 

Soldiers Memorial Field, with its walking paths along the Passaic River, is one spot you won't want to miss. Martin's Brook Park is a small park that will reinvigorate both person and pup with a nice stroll on its walking path along the brook shaded by foliage. Oakwood Park offers still more leashed outdoor exercise along the river. Briant Park Pond is a must-visit, too. Briant has a 1.1-mile walking path through large shade trees for you and your leashed dog to enjoy.  Briant has many open green areas, a pond, and well-placed benches for those little breaks.

Dog-friendly restaurants abound in Summit. The many different cuisines will please any palate. Food is a Fido-friendly eatery located on Springfield Avenue. Food has a variety of specialty items, like Thai grilled steak salad, and welcomes doggie diners at the outdoor tables. Winberie's is located at 2 Kent Plaza Boulevard, and is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner. This restaurant has ten outdoor tables for people dining with a furry companion, as well as an extensive menu with some specialty dishes, like a hamburger topped with fried pork belly and melted jack cheese!

Summit is the place to go if you want to dine with a canine companion.  So many kinds of food to chow down on! Lunchtime may find you and your pup at Marigolds, located at 426 Springfield Avenue. This restaurant has five outdoor tables ready for you and pup to try out a salad or sandwich. Marigolds is open from 8:30 am until 5 pm six days a week (closed on Sunday). The Office Tavern Grill, located at 61 Union Pl, serves up bar fare with imagination. The ground duck burger is a favorite local dish. This restaurant has six outdoor tables for you and your four-legged friend, and is open seven days a week for lunch, dinner, and late night snacks.

Small dogs have their slice of doggy paradise in their safely enclosed area. Morristown is located thirteen miles west of Summit. Lewis Morris Dog Park has a fully fenced enclosure for leash-free play and socialization.  The dog park is mostly paved, with some grass here and there. Small dogs have their separately fenced play area. Water is available here, and waste stations amply stocked with doggie waste baggies keep the place tidy. The main park is a pawpular spot for hiking and mountain biking, and welcomes leashed dogs to join in the fun. There is a fishing lake, too, so bring a rod and reel and cast a few lines. The trails here are well-marked, and make for a great walk for pup and person.

Montclair is eighteen miles north of Summit. A trip to 20 Bellevue Avenue will lead you to a fun doggie spot--Brookdale Dog Park. This fully fenced dog park lets that leash come off and the fun begin! A separately fenced area keeps the small dogs safer. The ground here is a mixture of mulch, dirt, and grass. Agility equipment like tunnels and jumps can be found in the large dog area. There is water on-site, and waste stations are stocked with waste baggies. People have comfortable shaded seating while they watch and supervise their dogs. Riverside County Park over in Lyndhurst, NJ, just 22 miles from Summit, is the destination for a pawsome time!  Here, you'll find Riverside Dog Park, with two separate enclosures for dogs to run and play leash-free. The ground in this dog park is covered with gray gravel, so no need to fret about muddy paws. The human companions have a few shaded areas in which to sit and watch Fido play. There are numerous frisbees and balls for a game of fetch. Water is provided, and waste stations are conveniently situated, so there's no excuse for not picking up! A person with a leashed pup can get a bit of the daily cardo by taking a brisk stroll along one of the many walkways in the main park.
