Surprise, Arizona, is a blossoming community found in Maricopa County, northwest of Phoenix. The city has seen a recent boom in population.The new arrivals also brought along their cats, dogs, and rabbits and not soon after the city was expanded with many pet-friendly stores and attractions.

One of the amenities in town for the benefit of animals is the Surprise AZ Bark Park. Dogs are allowed to run around and explore the park off their leash. Another great plus is that this dog park offers fun for the whole family. There are benches, picnic tables and many trees that provide much-needed shade.

Close to Surprise, in Glendale, Arizona, lies the Thunderbird Conservation Park. This conservation park offers an authentic desert environment that is a massive 1,185 acres in size. The park offers a large amount of trails for hikers, equestrians, bicyclists, joggers and people that are looking for a scenic route to walk their dogs.

The Marley Park neighborhood is a 950-acre planned community development bounded by West Waddell Road, North Reems Road, North Bullard Avenue, and West Cactus Road.  This affluent residential community has access to many private and public parks, and is served by its own shopping district. Anything a dog could need or want can be found in Marley Park.  The neighborhood is also home to Heritage Park, a public park located at 15073 W. Sweetwater Avenue.  It has several ramadas, a playground, splash pads, ball fields, and places to walk and recreate. Dogs must be on leash at this park, and Heritage makes for a great evening stroll for dog and person.

This beautiful residential area with its stately homes and greenery gives  a dog a whiff of farm living with all the convenience of a modern city.  There are shops and services galore.  Dogs are treated with even more of the outdoors in their very own dog park within the larger Surprise Community Park.  The dog park is an off-leash paddock-type enclosure where dogs of all sizes mingle and play. Sierra Montana is located in the southern area of Surprise just west of Loop 303. It is a planned community of some 2,600 houses. This human territory has everything a two- or four-legged mammal could want. There are shops, services, and idyllic paths and parks of trees and green. Many families live in this neighborhood, and it is very dog-friendly.  The Sierra Montana public park is open to all, fur and skin alike.  Located at 17680 West Spring Lane, this park is the pawfect place to go for a walk or sit at the ramada and enjoy a snack with your furry friend.

The park has numerous places to walk, and a large well-maintained green field where dogs and kids can run. The trees make for some treasured shade, and benches and ramadas make a space for a picnic lunch or snack. This idyllic place provides exercise for the body, sweet smells for the nose, and smiles and tail wags all around.

East Surprise is a mixture of older and newer housing developments.  Stretches of commercial property and employers are found here.  Make no bones about it, though, this is a place to drool over. Living is good here.  Shops and services are convenient. The Grand Pet Hotel at 12801 W. Bell Road offers overnight dog boarding here in typical Surprise furtastic fashion. In addition,  Bicentennial and Gaines public parks are in this neighborhood.  Dogs may visit on leash. Dogs and human companions may enjoy a picnic or barbecue under one of the ramadas or just end a work day with a walk around this well-maintained and grassy oasis. Playground equipment gives companion kids some fun, too.
