Dogs and their people can enjoy plenty shops and restaurants  together in Oakley. Dogs can even smell excitement in the air at the city’s only dog park. Vectren Bark Park is near the banks of the Wabash River, and this can either add to the natural beauty of the site, or bury it under a deluge of floodwater. This fenced grass enclosure has a separate space for small dogs. The park provides waste receptacles, but the bags go really fast, so bring your own.  Agility equipment is available at this park, and can used for training and just for extra fun. The Humane Society’s Animal Shelter is adjacent to the dog park, so there’s always a friendly pack to join.  More outdoor recreation can also be found in the 117-acre main park complex.

Eastside

The Eastside neighborhood is the pawfect destination for those visiting Terre Haute, offering plenty of lodging and activities for pups and their owners. Many hotels in this neighborhood cater to dogs visiting the Terre Haute. Woodridge Motel, located at Fruitridge and Ohio Blvd., has all pet-friendly rooms, and checks in humans with dogs of any size for $15 pet per stay. Days Inn on 101 Margaret accepts two dogs of any size for $5.35 per dog per night. Close by is the 177-acre Deming Park, complete with walking trails and picnic sites. Fishing with your pup in one of the lakes gives you and your furry friend a chance to relax and enjoy each other’s company.

South

The South neighborhood offers not one but two State Parks: Shakamak and Lincoln. Shakamak State Park has three lakes for fishing and boating. This park also has a campgrounds! Dogs are welcome at the State Park as long as they stay on a 6-foot leash.  There are numerous hiking trails that average 3 miles. Most of them are of moderate difficulty. Dogs may spend the night in the campgrounds, and they must be quiet between 11 PM and 7 AM. The Lincoln State Park is another big park dedicated to bringing people outdoor experiences. This large state park has lakes, hiking trails, and a campsite. Dogs are allowed in the park and the campground as long as they, along with their human companions, follow the rules of the park.

The north area of Terre Haute has some streets for a person and a pup to take a brisk stroll in a compact neighborhood. Because it's so pawpular, visitors abound in this neighborhood. Renatto Inn, located at 1523 East State Road, lets two dogs up 25 lbs stay for $10 per dog per night. Turkey Run State Park, which is technically located in the town of Marshall, is a great destination for some outdoor adventure. Turkey Run has forested hiking trails of varying degrees of difficulty. The park also has picnic sites and a campground. Dogs are welcome to stay in the park, but must remain on a six foot leash while exploring.

Brazil is a small community 17 miles northeast of Terre Haute. This neighborhood has plenty of pet-friendly hotels and parks where humans and dogs can get a whiff of nature.
