5 Trails

The United States Air Force Academy is located in El Paso County, just north of Colorado Springs. This facility serves as both a military organization and a university to educate officer cadets. After clearing a security check, both two legged and four legged visitors are welcome to check out this National Historic Landmark. If your pup needs care while visiting the Academy, take her to one of many Colorado Springs veterinary clinics that are just minutes away.

If your pooch likes hiking, he’s in luck. The USAF Academy has some furrific trails that allow leashed dogs. A beautiful nature trail leads to the Cadet Chapel, one of the Academy’s most iconic buildings. Although it is only a third of a mile, it is steep and hilly, so make sure your pup is up for the challenge.

The Falcon Trail is a great way to see the natural side of the property. It is a 13 mile loop, but there are options to make it shorter. Check out the interpretive signs to learn about the area’s flora, fauna, and geology.

A visit to the United States Air Force Academy will bring out your pup’s patriotism and give him a chance to get some exercise. Sounds pawsome!

It’s easy to see why the Stanley Canyon Trail is so pup-ular. This four mile round trip trail leads to a serene mountain reservoir that’s tucked away in the Rampart Range. Follow the trail through a steep canyon, past streams and waterfalls, up to a panoramic view of the Colorado Springs area. Since the trailhead is on the Academy’s property, you will need to pass security to get access. If you want to continue your hike past Stanley Reservoir, hop on the Farish Trail and venture deeper into the Pike National Forest. Remember to bring plenty of water for both you and your furry companion.

Escape the hum drum of everyday life with a hike in Pulpit Rock Park. This Colorado Springs park may be surrounded by residential communities, but you’ll feel miles away while hiking through the sandstone terrain. Several trails weave throughout the park, some are clearly marked while others are just spurt trails. The main four mile loop will get you and your pup to the top, then back to the parking lot. Once you make it to the summit of Pulpit Rock, enjoy spectacular vistas of Colorado Springs and Pike’s Peak. Since there are rattlesnakes in the area, make sure your pup sticks to the path.
