Vermilion is a quaint seaside town on the south shore of Lake Erie in Ohio. Here you can take a stroll through “Harbor Town” to check out the visiting boats in the marinas, or the eclectic shops and restaurants. At Sherod Park, you can find something for everyone, including the family dog! This park is located in the Northwest Vermilion neighborhood, off of West Lake Rd. Here you can enjoy the vast grassy areas and trees with a view of the breathtaking Lake Erie. There are a large variety of athletic fields, a walking path, picnic areas and access to the lake. Leashed dogs are welcome, but don’t forget the waste bags! When it’s time for a pick me up, head over to the Woodstock Cafe, located in the same neighborhood. Here you can enjoy one of their gourmet sandwiches and a craft beer next to your canine companion on the dog friendly patio. Water bowls are included!

It’s here that you can find the Vermilion River Reservation. This sprawling reservation features 5 miles of crushed stone and dirt trails that meander through the forest. Located in the east end of Vermilion, in the Vermilion-on-the-Lake neighborhood, you can find Showse Park. This park is a great option whether you want to enjoy some heart pumping exercise and playtime with your dog, or some peaceful meditation. The park features a playground, baseball diamonds, tennis courts, and expansive grassy areas your pooch will love to dig his toes into. Here you can sit, relax, and enjoy watching the boats pass by on Lake Erie. There is also a pavilion, which is great for family gatherings or picnics. In the nearby town of Amherst, just east of Vermilion, you can find another puppy paradise! Just a 10 minute drive away, in the neighborhood of Beavercreek Estates, you can find the woofderful Amherst Beaver Creek Reservation. This 65 acre reservation consists of mature woodlands and floodplains, with plenty of ways to enjoy them. The 1.4 mile paved loop trail is easy on the paws and the eyes. It starts overlooking the Beaver Creek and descends to the water's edge. Then it continues into a cathedral-like pine grove, and over charming footbridges. Other park features include picnic areas, a playground, athletic fields and a visitor center. Make sure your playful pup stays leashed and leaves only paw prints!
