If you live in Visalia, California, you’re no stranger to the area’s many dog-friendly attractions! Whether you’re looking to score some off-leash time in one of Visalia’s fenced-in dog parks, or hit the trails and see glimpses of the surrounding mountains and rivers, you’ll have options to enjoy the day with your four-legged best friend.
The Cody Kelly Bark Park is located in Plaza Park, which features a golf course, two playgrounds, a fishing pond, bike path, horseshoe pits, and several arbors. The Bark Park section is fenced-in and often full of friendly people and pets! Featuring shade from the hot California sun, a water fountain, tennis balls, and a sanitation station, the Cody Kelly Bark Park has everything you need.
Visalia’s smaller dog park is called the Seven Oaks Bark Park. It does not have separated large and small dog areas like its’ larger counterpart, but this 1-acre fenced-in park is perfect for dogs of all sizes which might want a less crowded place to play. Sunset Park is also noted for being dog-friendly towards leashed pooches.
For the best hikes in the area, you’ll need to drive out of the city, but the views are well worth it. King’s Canyon is an easy, 4.5-mile trail that offers amazing views of Redwood Canyon, as well as local wildflowers and wildlife. For something longer, try the 13.5-mile Twin Lakes Trail – be sure watch out for bears, and if camping overnight, check out the lakes full of brook trout. One thing’s for sure – your pooch is bound to have a blast in Visalia!
