Warrenville, Illinois was settled by Julius Warren. He came here to escape the life he felt he was failing at in New York. He and his family made it their job to help new settlers build their homes and establish their homesteads. They even ran the stagecoach line and later the rail line. The original inn that was built by Warren is still standing, and was remodeled in 2002.

Today, Warrenville still thrives with the small-town charm and sense of community that the Warrens helped establish all those years ago. You can tell that the residents of Warrenville consider their pets family -- there are three vets in this tiny town.

If you would like some green space to come and play in, head on over to Lion's Park. It has shaded, paved trails that are easy to walk. There is a playground for the little ones, too, which makes it pawfect for a family outing. If you come in the spring, you can even find some red berries to pick! The park is kept as natural as possible, which makes it a relaxing spot.

Cery Park is a busier park, but it does have lots of open green space. You will love that you can bring your dog to enjoy some wide open room for running and playing. This is the main community park, and you will often find dog-friendly events that you and Fido can attend together.

Blackwell Forest Preserve has nine miles of trails that you and your dog can enjoy. If you really want a sense of adventure, pack a tent and enjoy a night or weekend of nothing but nature. Bring your rod and reel and go fishing here, or pack a picnic and enjoy a quiet moment with your pup. Feeling really adventurous? You can even go kayaking!. Of course, your dog will need to stay on a leash here. The park won't let you put your dog in the water without a life jacket, so you will need one if you plan to let Fido play in the water with you. Bring your own doggie waste bags as well.

Blackwell Dog Park and Training Field is a large dog park where you can let your dog off his leash so he can go dog wild! You do have to have a permit to play, but there are day passes available. The fences are high and secure enough that you can feel comfortable letting your dog play. There is a water tap, but you will want to bring a dish. The water isn't turned on in the colder months, but the park's caretakers post signs when the park is winterized. The trash cans do not always have doggie waste bags, so you will want to carry some of your own to be sure.

One of the most pawpular trails in Illinois passes right through Warrenville. Illinois Prairie Path was established back in 1963, making it one of the first Rails-to-Trails Conservancy projects. This organization converts abandoned rail lines into walking trails all across the country. The Illinois Prairie Path is a 58-mile trail that winds through several cities. Your pup will need to stay on their leash while you walk. There is no running water along the trail, so please bring drinking water with you.

Did all that exploring made you and Fido hungry? Rock Bottom Restaurant and Brewery makes delicious and unique concoctions. You will want to try the Sour Slam Berry cocktail because the locals say it is like nothing you've ever had anywhere. Grab some Jalapeno pretzel sticks while you wait for your mango habanero chicken. Your dog is always welcome to join you as long as you keep him on a leash. Make sure you bring him a water dish if you want him to be served as well. Before you leave, don't fur-get to grab a Mason jar pie to finish off your meal.

Corner Bakery Cafe is the local favorite for breakfast. They don't offer table service, but they do have ten outdoor tables where you and your dog can get some of the most epic muffins, pancakes, and even bacon and eggs. They have pasta salads and deli sandwiches for lunch as well. Grab a handmade pie or cake for a treat later on. Your dog will need to be on a leash while you eat, and you'll have to tie him up while you go in to order. Bring a dish for your dog. This is definitely the place to come if you want to leave with a full belly!
