The Harmony Circle neighborhood, in the city of Wayzata, is home to the Big Woods River Preserve. This is a hardwood forest that welcomes visitors and pups to this nature preserve, and is popular in March when the sugar maple sap is harvested. Originally a 1930’s estate, it is now a welcome respite from city life. There are rustic paths winding throughout this beautiful space. Be sure to pack plenty of water and mutt mitts to keep this preserve pristine. Afterwards, grab a slice at Gina Maria’s Pizza, or dine at D’Amico and Sons restaurant, featuring made-to-order pasta at their pet-friendly tables.
The Highcroft Ferndale neighborhood, in the city of Wayzata, you will find Shaver Park, located directly on an inlet of Wayzata Bay. This park offers a dog-friendly picnicking area near the water and a wooded walking trail to an 1800’s historic trapper’s cabin. Head across the walking bridge to Wayzata Beach. There are dedicated areas for picnicking in the grassy area, where your fur-ever friend is welcome on leash. Sit in the Adirondack chairs located alongside the water and relax. There are also sports courts and a kiddie playground on-site. Be sure to pack plenty of water, but restrooms are provided.
Ready for some outdoor fun? The Wood-Rill Scientific and Natural Area, in the Long Lake neighborhood, of the city of Wayzata, offers a 141-acre area, which is just perfect to take your pup for some extensive hiking on leash. There are miles of walking trails that interconnect throughout, which also join with the Luce Line State Trail for endless biking opportunities. This is the place to be in the winter for excellent cross-country skiing with pup by your side. Or how about trying some snowshoeing, perfect for those more active pups? Be sure to pack plenty of water and food.
The Bass Lake Road/West Fish Lake Road neighborhood, in city of Maple Grove, north of Wayzata, offers Fish Lake Dog Park! Located in the Fish Lake Regional Park, Fido will feel footloose and fancy free on seven acres of fenced area. After your pup is worn out, you can head into the park for a bit of lakeside relaxation. There are plenty of wooded spots to enjoy, and picnic areas to share lunch with your fur-ever friend. There are boating opportunities on Fish Lake in the summer, and it is the perfect place to go ice fishing in the winter.
