Dogs are welcome must be leashed when not in your vehicle. Before turning in for the night, take your pooch for a walk around Heritage Park. Since this park houses the main structures built by the Union Pacific Railroad in the early 20th century, your furry friend can soak in some history while also getting a pawsome workout.

North West Yellowstone

After lying around all day, your pup will greatly appreciate a walk in Linear Park. Not your traditional park, it is comprised of a natural trail that cuts through the middle of a residential area. Your leashed doggo can trot along the path while enjoying some fresh air and sunshine. It’s less than half a mile, so if your dog is bursting with energy, you may need to stroll over to Electric Park for some added mileage. This park features tennis and basketball courts as well as a patch of grass and grove of trees. Continue your dog’s workout by taking a couple laps around the park’s perimeter. Don’t forget to bring a clean up bag and plenty of water!

East West Yellowstone

If your pooch is begging for a walk, then grab the leash and head over to Boundary Trail for some doggy cardio. Since there are heavy dog restrictions inside Yellowstone National Park, this trail is a great alternative. It runs parallel to the national park, so your pup can still enjoy the area’s natural beauty. During the winter, it is frequented by cross country skiers, but when the snow melts, it’s a puppy paradise! While on the trail, your dog must be under voice control and, as always, cleaned up after.  No bones about it, your doggo will absolutely love Boundary Trail!

Hebgen Lake

Hebgen Lake lies about 20 minutes north of downtown West Yellowstone. Your pup will absolutely love spending the day in this scenic area. If they’re a water loving dog, head over to the lake for swimming, fishing, or boating. If your furry friend would rather hit the trails, check out Red Canyon Trail. With gorgeous wildflowers, abundant wildlife, and some steep switchbacks, this trail is rugged Montana at its finest. For something a bit more mellow, the shorter trail just to the west of the trailhead meanders through a meadow and pine forest. Since this is bear country, be sure to keep a close eye on your pup.
