Westhaven-Moonstone is small community in Humboldt County. Commonly referred to as Westhaven, this seaside haven has pawsome beach access for two legged and four legged visitors. Whether your pup wants to just sit and watch the waves crash, or romp around the sandy surf, Westhaven-Moonstone has what she’s looking for. Unfurtnately, it does not have its own veterinary clinic. But, if your dog is feeling under the weather, canine care is just minutes away in McKinleyville.

The Moonstone Beach County Park is a pupular spot for families with pets since dogs can be off leash in the wave slope. It sits right where Little River meets the Pacific Ocean, so not only can your furry friend dance through the waves, she can also wade through the mellow current of the river. As you stroll along the sand with your pup, keep your eyes open for a variety of seashells and delicate sand dollars. The northern end of the beach has caves to explore during low tide. Your pooch can sniff around for all sorts of sea creatures, like urchins, anemones, and starfish. At the end of the day, grab a spot on the sand watch the sun set with your pal by your side.

Your pup may end up a little sandy after a visit, but she’ll love hanging out in Westhaven-Moonstone!

During low tide, the cove’s rock outcroppings are filled with marine life. Your pup can nose around the tidepools, just be sure he doesn’t step on or harass the creatures.
