The East Bay Wildlife Management Area is in Whitehall, and is open year-round for camping, hiking, paddling and wildlife-spotting on its 38 acres. Composed of wetlands and forest, it sits in a narrow river valley with steep sides, and the ledge at the top provides some pawsome scenic views. Because hunting is permitted in the area, be aware of the season and equip yourself and your pup with blaze orange garb. Consult the information kiosk near the parking area. Trails in this WMA are clearly marked and maintained, even in winter. Cross-country skiing or snowshoeing is a great way to get some exercise and fresh air in the winter for both you and Fido! Brayton/ Cleverdale
This
neighborhood in Queensbury is home to Dunham’s Bay Marsh, part of the Lake
George watershed. Although wetlands and bogs are rare for the Lake George area
because of its geology, the Dunham Marsh provides a pawrfect example. And it’s
a great place to take a canoe or kayak trip with your fur-pup to view the
natural resources it offers. There are peat swamps, fens, highbush blueberry
bog thickets and many different species of trees and shrubs, along with
abundant wildlife. Fido will have a good time watching, listening and sniffing
for salamanders and other amphibians, songbirds and waterfowl, and water-loving
mammals like beavers. Don’t forget to bring a lifejacket for the pup, and your
camera!

Queensbury Town Center
The Queensbury Town Center neighborhood hosts the Ridge/ Jenkinsville Park, with 80 acres and a variety of sports facilities and fields. The park encourages people to bring their pups, on leash and under control. Arf! Equipped with grassy lawns, a walking track and picnic tables and shelter, it’s a super place for an afternoon with your fur-buddy. Whether the two of you take a jog on the track or just toss down a blanket and relax under a tree, this park is a fun place to be with your furry bestie. If you bring your human kids, too, there’s a playground for them, and restrooms. In the winter, the park lends itself woofderfully to cross-country skiing and snowshoeing!

Lake George
The town of Lake George sits at the Lake’s southernmost end, a few miles from Whitehall, and it’s where you’ll find the pawrrific Lake George Dog Beach. This long, narrow beach is super dog-friendly, but because it’s not fenced, bring that long leash or tie-out lead with you. Metered parking is available, and the parking lot attendants often have treats for the doggos. The beach provides waste stations, but not drinking water, so do be sure to bring some. This is a great place for Fido to cool off and cavort while you relax on the sand or grass. You’ll also find a dog park a few blocks from the beach, next to the soccer fields at the Recreation Area. The park is separated into two sections for large and small dogs. There are agility obstacles and grassy surfaces for running, socializing and play. It’s a woofderful pup park!

This neighborhood in Glens Falls is home to the Canalway Trail – Glens Falls Feeder Canal Trail. This dog-friendly, 9-mile long rail-trail begins in Glens Falls at Dam Richardson St. and ends in Ft Edward. Following the Hudson River through the city it eventually comes to Lake Champlain where you’ll be treated to spectacular views of this beautiful lake. Following the former canal pathway, you may meet bicyclists on the multi-use trail, and in the winter, cross-country skiers. The surface is of crushed stone and is wheelchair accessible. One small portion is an on-road segment near the paper mill in Glens Falls, so keep a tight hand on Fido’s leash here. Furbulous!
