There are many trails of varying difficulty to choose from, so be sure to grab a park map from the information center. The neighboring state forest is called Peoples State Forest. This forest is over 3,000 acres of beautiful woodlands, and it too has many hiking trails. Both of the state forests require leashes for dogs.
Torrington is a wonderful town located south of Winsted. Burr Pond State Park is located there: it covers almost 500 acres and has open fields as well as forest trails for hiking. Sunny Brook State Park is another great place to visit in Torrington if you are looking for outdoor activities. There are also some great dog-friendly dining options in town. Two local favorites on Main Street are The Venetian and Backstage — they both offer outdoor seating, so you can dine with a furry friend!
