Next to the Amity & Woodbridge Historical Society, you'll find the Bishop Estate/Darling House Trails, which will take you and your pooch around the 160-acre homestead. Walk through rolling meadows and woodlands, and cross stone walls and a bridge over the West River—these trails are for those who seek adventure! One trail also connects to a hike in the adjacent West Rock Ridge State Park in Hamden, but it's best attempted by experienced hikers as it travels up a mountain and over rocky terrain. For an easier hike with minor slopes, stick to the loop trail in the middle of the property.

Located near the Woodbridge Volunteer Fire Department, the Fitzgerald Tract is a beautiful place to go for a leashed walk with your four-legged best friend. In fact, this site is so picturesque that artists can often be found here, using the landscape as their inspiration. Comprising fields, meadows, woodlands, and wetlands, the Fitzgerald Tract houses popular fitness trails, community gardens, and a chestnut tree orchard. Picnic tables and benches are scattered throughout the tract so you and your pup can take a break anytime. Since the Fitzgerald Tract is a conservation area, always keep Fido on a leash and away from the wildflowers and community gardens.

Southeast Woodbridge
Tucked away on the southeastern edge of town near the New Haven border, the Historic Indian Trails let you and your pup enjoy Woodbridge's natural and historic beauty. The trails, which are mostly moderate to difficult hikes, travel north through historic Indian lands where several spearpoints, arrowheads, and artifacts have been found. If you start at the trailhead on Fountain St, you'll be greeted by a puptacular view of New Haven Sound, West Rock, and East Rock. After you and Fido have gotten a good hike in, take a short drive to the Solun Tapas Bar & Restaurant to refuel. Solun has a fenced and shaded patio where you can dig into some tapas with Fido by your feet. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are also available.

The Racebrook Tract is an open space covering 181 acres in Woodbridge, and 230 acres in the neighboring town of Orange. Four blazed trails travel across this extensive site, passing through mixed hardwood and white pine forests on fairly level land. Stream belts, wetlands, brush, and meadows also make up the Racebrook Tract, making it an ideal habitat for a variety of wildlife. Fido is welcome to join you in exploring this puptastic natural area as long as he is leashed and cleaned up after. Other activities that are allowed at the Racebrook Tract include biking, horseback riding, fishing, and cross-country skiing. While there is a trailhead in the Woodbridge portion of the tract, the parking area is located in Orange.
