Woodbury Heights is a borough in Gloucester County, New Jersey, just a few miles from the New Jersey/Pennsylvania border, and 14 miles south of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was formed in 1915 from portions of neighboring Deptford Township. Covering just 1.2 square miles, it is a small place, but well worth stopping by while you and your pooch are travelling this area. While there aren’t any vet clinics or animal hospitals in Woodbury Heights, there is an animal hospital in Woodbury and a vet clinic in Manatua Township, both just a couple of miles away.

The Glen Lake Park is the place to go in Woodbury Heights for a walk and some fresh air with your pup. This popular fishing spot has a lovely walking path around the lake, and plenty of open space to get in some steps or throw a ball around with your leashed pooch. There are some lovely picnic groves to seek out for a packed lunch or a rest under the trees.

While in Woodbury Heights, take some time at Veteran’s Memorial Park too, built in 2005 to honor local residents who sacrificed their lives to military causes. You will need to keep you pup on a leash.

There is plenty more to see and do with your pet around Woodbury Heights – you are both sure to enjoy your stay!

The West Deptford Park in neighboring West Deptford Township is a puptastic place to go for a fun family day out with your pooch. This large, open 86-acre park has something for everyone! The paved walking trail is perfect for taking Fido for an on-lead walk to get some exercise together. The kids will love running around on the ball fields and basketball courts, or bring their wheels and helmet for a play at the skate park. When you are all ready for a rest, stretch out on the grass at the picnic areas for a packed lunch. Keep your pup leashed here as it is a public park, and always bring some clean up bags.

If your pooch is in need of some serious off-leash running time, head up to the Deptford Dog Park in Westville, just a seven minute drive northeast of Woodbury Heights. Here, two securely fenced areas separate the big dogs from the little ones to keep everyone safe, so your pooch can play happily and really burn off some energy. There is some agility equipment to add to the fun and benches for you to relax at while you supervise. Waste bags are provided here, but bring water and a drinking bowl. This place can get a little muddy in the wet weather, so bring a towel for the trip too!

Fasola Park in Deptford Township is just three miles east of Woodbury Heights, and well worth a visit while you are in the area. The whole family will love this park! Get in your daily exercise by popping your pooch on a lead for a walk through the grounds and along the paved paths, or stop at the workout stations to really get those muscles moving. If you have two-legged kids in tow, they will love the splash pad that operates during the warmer months, or the playgrounds and open grassy space where you can all kick a ball around. Always pick up after your pet when out and about, and keep pooch on a lead here.

Grab the lead and head off for a lovely little woodland walk over at Almonesson Creek Park hiking area in Deptford Township. This 1.25-mile trail runs through a stand of trees and over a creek, offering scenic views and the chance to spot a variety of wildlife such as deer. The terrain is easy, but the trail is dirt and sometimes wet near the creek, so wear appropriate footwear. There is ample parking at the trailhead and a ball field nearby for more outdoor fun. The Tall Pines State Preserve in Sewell is 110 acres of diverse landscape to explore with your pup. Once a golf course, Tall Pines is now a popular place for hiking through woodland, grassland and wetland areas. Dogs are welcome, as long as they remain leached and you pick up any waste your pet leaves behind. Take your time here and see if you can spot some of the many native birds that call this place home, as well as the abundance of wildlife along the Manatua Creek. The old asphalt golf cart paths make for an easy, accessible walk and are perfect for any skill level. The perimeter trail is approximately 2.4 miles, but there are other roads and shorter connecting trails throughout the park.
